And I think that women should not drive because they suck at it, and that Nineteenth Amendment was a mistake all together. But all the same, look at that, they can. You know why, freedom, yes, it comes at a cost.

I understand the issue with people crashing and killing someone else. But look at it this way. Someone who is stupid enough to kill them selves on an R1 will simply do it in a camaro if the bike option is not available. And do 10x the damage. I say let them kill them selves at the cheapest possible price to our society.

As far as the availability of cheep parts because people are killing them selves, I am indeed being facetious. But you got to admit, it sad when a good rider slips an hurts them selves, but I can not care less when some idiot buys a bike too big for them and finds the first pole.

I am a lawyer by trade, guess giving my kind a bad name yet again, but I heard a story from a colleague that is pertinent. There was a guy in central Wisconsin who used to ride bikes 20 something years ago. So in 2006 he picks up a ZX1400 and takes it for a ride, after a 20 year brake. And, as you may guess, he finds the first pole on the road with none for miles, and promptly crashes into it while going somewhere in the neighborhood of 150MPH. He side swipes the pole and rips off his lag and arm, clean rip. But survives. Now, do you feel bad for this guy, do you? I sure don't. The guy is an idiot, and should not have ridden, and yet he would be perfectly legal to ride in UK, in US, and any wear else.

Cool part of that story, the guy ended up suing Kawasaki because he claimed the triple clamps bolts were loose and that's why he crashed. Well, my buddy hired a firm to recreate the crash. I actually saw the video where they loosened all the bolts, installed stoppers so the trees would not slip down. The front end was completely loose. And this test driver guy takes it to 120MPH, picks the front end up and slams it into the ground. Lends the wheel sideways on purpose and nothing happens, the bike tank slaps and then stabilizes it's self in a 10th of a second. To see it was pretty awesome. The bike owner lost the suit.

The point is, when you make tough laws, you make it hard for reasonable people like you and me, well at least you, to comply with them. While the idiot contingent in our society will still find a way to bypass the law and hurt them selves and others. More education is better then more legislation.

Being that I am Canadian, I don't know what your 19th amendment is. I'm sure you won't hesitate to tell me. I suspect it has something to do with the vote.

Given what you believe, without any kind of testing and licensing, any 16 year old kid with enough money could go and buy himself a litre bike and go ride it. You know as well as I do that's a recipe for disaster.

I don't care what your profession is. You say you are a lawyer. Lawyers have their place. They are sometimes very necessary.

By the way.....for someone so well educated, you sure do have lousy spelling.

UK generally sucks in all things related to automotive laws, and they suck in this respect as well. I like people getting R1s as their first bike and killing them selves, then I can find cheep parts online for mine.

You right, I do have shitty spelling, but I rarely spellcheck my own stuff, so what do I care. :)

shane-o: Good, cogent, argument. Indeed. Oh, hold on you are in Australia. Don't you guys force your population to vote? Yet another limitation placed on your freedom by your government. Good one.

I still yet to hear a good argument of why it's a bad idea to let people kill them selves on a bike. Like I said, take away the bikes and they will simply do it in a car.

Oh, that was awesome experience BTW in the way the system worked. In the end that ticket was only $80 and I literally talked my way into a license while utterly failing the actual written test (passed the driving test with no problem, got skills, refuse to read the CA Rider book though). So, yeah, just goes to show you, that people like me, given some experience and advice from friends, will manipulate the system, while people like you will be riding 150cc bikes for years.

Oh, and guess what, I was right on the law on that one too, but that's a minor point to most people on this form. All the same, sorry to disappoint you, but the only lesson I learned is how to efficiently manipulate the California traffic courts, that's all.

I ride legally now, because it's cheep, but I would not hesitate for a second to do that again. And again, that's the problem. Responsible people do not buy liter bikes, talk them selves into M1 licenses, or slide on $3,000 tickets. Irresponsible people do, and the law is nothing but a speed bump.

You are from Canada, right. I heard that you guys have a 33hp restriction, is that right? And that you can literally buy an R6 with a restriction plate and tip the dealer a 50$ to have it removed. Yeah, that law really works!

No, there are no restrictions as to what you can buy.

I might be wrong about this, I only heard it from some guy. I think I was thinking about UK anyway:
wikipedia: [In UK a] "large restricted motorcycle", which has a power output of not more than 25 kW (33.5 hp). Riders are restricted to riding large restricted motorcycles or smaller for two years after passing their initial motorcycle test. A "large motorcycle", which has a power output of at least 25 kW (33.5 hp).
Same thing applies, you get an R6 with restriction plate, tip the dealer and 10 min later you a riding 120HP beast, law or no law.

Are there any restriction in Canada on top HP, or any top HP limits? For some reason something is nagging in the back of my mind about that.

lol ;)

I have you pictured now, and this is my image.

Your probably over weight, by a good few pounds, smell and resemble the left ball of a dead rhinoceros, you would be about 46yrs old. Although your are some what edumicated, you really didn't excel at school as you have the attention span the size of a fleas bad (can I say bad here :) ) largely due to your crazy need for an endless supply of pop tarts and cheesy poofs combined with that biting curiosity of what it would be like to be one of those kool peeps who ride motorcycles. For this reason you failed scholastically but managed to do a 2.5 week online law degree, an achievement that you display proudly on your bedroom door :)

Now your pop tart fixation has cost you dearly, because, unless i miss my mark and I sincerely doubt it, you are reading my critique of you right now, naked, semi recumbent on your doona of your sofa bed in your bedroom at your parents house, a doona that incidentally has a picture of leo sayer and matching freddy merc' pillow cases on it, listening to culture clubs greatest hits, whilst further multi tasking, by also simultaneously watching reruns of the orig starwars whilst giving that wookie doll mum got your for x-mas last year a good working out on ya naughty bits with one hand and reading/writing a futile rebuttal against yours truly with the other,.....you legend you

Scary aint it, i think im going to have to start asking for money in return for my psychic talent ;)

Tip honey all over me, roll me in sugar, place a good healthy dollop of chocolate on my bits then let the lesbians loose, LET EM LOOSE !!!!!!

hmmmmm, let me see......You ignoramus ;) how the puck is the government going to make me vote? huh what!!!!! you think they line us all up then throw a ballot card in front of you, then apply nipple cramps and some water torture, then start flicking ya balls with a wet towel all at gun point until you either fill the card out or die :) wake up ;)
