The insurance industry is one of the biggest rip-off industries in the country.

thats actually not very good. I have been riding for 2 and have 0 claims on my bike. My van, on the other hand, I have had a few comprehensive claims for cracked windshield (illegal to drive with your windshield cracked and the windshield on my van is $1800 to which I pay 0 cause the replacement places will waive your deductable), hit a deer, my wife must have hit a curb cause the whole underside was dented in so 3 claims in a year on my van. Luckily its only comprehensive claim otherwise they woulda dropped me.

You did notice the difference between canada and american insurance in this thread right? I consider my $298/yr coverage is now nothing compared to what canada pays. heck I dont even pay as much as them canadians do for full coverage on my van and thats only $75/month.

Claims where the other party was at fault but it's still considered pretty good for a 23 yr old which stats show people in my age range are pretty high in accidents. Plus I haven't had to file a claim in almost 2 years now. *knocks on wood*

well yes that is good I guess but I have yet to have any sort of accident claim (other than hitting 2 deer) in the last 13 years I have had a liscence. Now that doesnt mean I havent had speeding tickets lol. Yes I am 29 lol. Either way glad it wasnt your fault cause then that would make it a bad thing :D.

I second that Manitoba sucks for bikers... They raise the rates every summer and the minimum you'll pay for a 'real' bike (a cruiser or standard and not one of those dinky scooters) from the 80s is about 1300$. Buy a newer bike or one with an engine larger than 500cc and you can count on premiums going up towards 2K$ ...and don't even think about a sport bike.

Manitoba = A$s.

I agree!
I've read through the posts and I'd like to clarify one thing. Not all Canadian provinces have govt. insurance. Here in Ontario car and bike insurance is handled by private insurance. Guess what! We are still being ripped off. Just because there's a 'free market' and 'competition' doesn't mean you are not going to be ripped off.

Contrary to popular belief insurance companies are not in business to provide you with insurance. They are in business to make money.
I always follow the rules.
The only exception to the rule occurs when I make an exception to the rule not to make an exception to the rule and that only occurs under exceptional circumstances.

Zowie! That is a lot of cash to pay.

Here in Missouri, I pay US$ 510 for two riders, two bikes, and full coverage and some extras.

I can't complain, I guess......
