I'd say you could park it in a parking lot in warm weather, get the eye lock thing, and in the WINTER and cold weather time i would put it in a storage space, do you have any family or real close friends that have garages?
If you wanna spend some money get a Bike trailer.

Thanks for the info!
The more I think about it the more it seems that owning a bike will certainly be do-able for me.
As for winter storage I will either pay to put it somewhere or hopefully get lucky and find someone I know willing to let me store it with them. In any case that shouldn't be a problem.
I live in a small university town so it's actually a very safe place. It sounds like there are plenty of options for keeping the bike secure and protected from the elements so that's good news.

My two cents:
I live in an apartment complex with no garage and store my bike in the smallest "free" spot outside my apartment. I've never caught any flak for it but make sure you check your leasing agreement for "technicalities" and "provisions" which would allow you to keep a bike in addition to cars. For example, technically, I am only allowed two cars (my girlfriend's car and mine). However, being that my neighbor owns four cars and it's my motorcycle is technically not a car, I think I have an argument as to why I thought it was ok to have three vehicles. Also, i told the landlady that I bought a bike, which I was obligated to do and she never gave me papers to sign. That probably won't hold water but it's one more thing if I ever had any trouble with it.
I had planned on taking my bike to a storage unit but never got around to it. I've ridden through most of this winter and cleaned it a few times on the warm days. It's in the same shape it was in when I first bought it.

As I continue to read around, another entry level bike has caught my eye in a big way.
The Honda CBR125R
Though I did initially say I wasn't really considering sport bikes, this is looking like one heck of a little bike!
The price is excellent, it looks great and though it is a sport bike, the insurance costs are still low becaues of the small engine. There's also the "GO Combo" offer which gives the bike, along with joe rocket jacket, pants, boots and gloves plus 3 year warranty and roadside assistance for an MSRP of 4104. Whether going with this combo offer or not, buying new is probably the best option with this bike as used ones sell for essentially the same price, and there aren't very many around.
Now I'm wondering again about the long-term viability of a 125. Would I be able to take a 200km trip on the highway on this little guy? Reading around it seems that 250s are more than up to some pretty daunting tasks, but can the same be said of a 125?
Like I said I live in a small university town so the roads are mostly open country here. However, going in to the closest city is about a 50km ride on the highway, and returning home to see family would be about a 200km ride.
So how far can you really push a 125?
Edit: As I continue to read it seems that a 125 isn't going to fit the bill for my situation. I would still be interested to hear what those here may have to say though.
