standard riding position and it makes an amazing amount of power at higher rpms.
if it's any more comfortable than the previous v-max's i think i may have found my next bike (that or the softail cross bones

)
The Max is a Power Cruiser. A genre originally created by the Honda V65 Magna and permanently defined by the V-Max.
The original Max had a ton of torque as well as insane HP at the top as you said when the V-Boost kicked in. The unusual combination of busload of torque and the Hi-RPM HP made the Max an insane bike to ride.
I stand corrected.

Brackstone, are you and me the only one that likes the looks of this bike???
I think the bike is awesome looking and to my eyes, the designers at Yamaha hit a home run with this one.

Don't be surprised it's the same thing with the new Ducati Monster 696. There are so many more people that hate the design than that like it. People just hate change imo. However motorcycle companies realize that the next generation of bikers are looking for something more radical.
Monster 696
This V-Max
My Shiver
Things are just changing gears, eventually lots of people will like this bike, it just probably won't be old school riders

I thought the original V-max was just as hideous.
I love the new Monster and the Shiver.

I think this bike looks awesome. It is WAY to much bike for me though. I would kill myself and the bike in the first week.

Radical is fine. But what I see here is cheap-plasticky, slapped together in a hurry. There's nothing radical about it, it's just a bunch of surface tweaks. It is all out of balance with itself, doesn't work as a whole.
I like the Shiver just fine. I like the KTM Super Duke. Both those bikes "hang together" as a concept.

I agree that the Shiver is a gorgeous bike but the Katoom? No doubt the bike is a hoot to ride and it is an amazingly competent bike but I don't think it's actually a good looking bike. I looked at it in person before buying my Hyper and I was not too thrilled with the cheap dirtbike plastics. The color is not even painted but molded into the plastic just like a dirtbike.

Wow, this design is way too cluttered for me and the tail end looks hideous. Sure the V4 puts out a ton of power, but who and the hell needs 200 ponies under their crotch? I suppose this all boils down to personal taste, but the B-King struck a homerun in an entirely different ball park, if not an entirely different league. I laugh at such a comparison.
But this new re-design will be a sight to see, when and if they do sell.
