We bought it 11 years ago for my wife for $1550 Canadian and it had a little road rash on the side. It was a '90 model and we sold it this spring after I spent $400 making it look just like new. The price it sold for? $2500 the first day!!! It had about $25,000 km when I sold it. Here's a pic: http://totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/album_sh ... ic_id=2459isnowbrd wrote: Did you buy your VTR250 brand new? How much did you pay for it? I think I remember you saying that you sold it. How many miles were on it, and how much did it go for?
So...many...questions....
What year was it?

I want to see more 400cc and up dual sports! My suzuki is the only 400cc dual sport, and all the 650s (suzuki DR, kawi KLR, and honda XR are huge, bloated and underpowered). Honda needs to make the new CRF450X into a dual sport model...

The aprilia mxv/sxv Motards are supposed to be coming into production some time soon. That's a 450 v-twin motocross bike making (supposedly) 70 bhp!!

I agree. Yamaha almost pulled it off with the FZ-6. Great looking bike, with great ergos, but they left the engine in complete screamer form. If they would have tuned it for more bottom end power, it would really have been an attractive bike. Just about every review of the bike say it is gutless until you scream the heck outta it. Close, but no cigar....
You hit the nail on the head with this. I love my FZ-6 and it's been great for me to learn on but you have to get over 7k RPM's to really get it moving. It also doesn't like to be in 1st under 10 MPH. Maybe most bikes don't, I don't have a lot of experience with different bikes, but it chugs down in 1st unless you get the RPM's up.
Anyways, I'd have to agree with the idea of a sportbike look in a smaller engine. Unfortunately I don't think they'd sell. For the simple fact that the dealers are going to push the newbs to the bigger bikes saying they'll be bored on a smaller engine. My dealer ended up telling me that. In my case I had my mind made up so it didn't matter what he said.
I also think that if they had some different options for the standards that would help. I think the SV is a great example of this, you can get the same bike with 2 different looks. I think other manufacturers should consider this. I've heard Honda has a great standard street bike, but it's ugly to me.

How about a Ducati Monster S3R?????
Ducati already make the expensive but effective S4R with the full on 996cc - 4 valve per cylinder superbike engine but the cost and the exposed plumbing of the water-cooled ingine are enough to put alot of people off:
S4R

They already have the very succesful selling S2R which uses the fuel injected 800cc 2 valve per cylinder engine. A great bike(if I do say so myself
)
S2R:

So why not take the critically aclaimed 3 valve per cylinder air cooled 1000cc motor out of the current ST3 and give it the S-R treatment? Price it inbetween the S2R and S4R and they should have a winner.....It might steal sales from the other two however....

or another thing similar to what u say is that it would also be good like u could go buy a bike and have the option of having a little button limiter so u can make it only have like 60 hp and only like 15 lbs of torque compared to like 120 hp and 70 lbs of torque then when ur ready to upgrade BOOP just flip a switch and ur good!iwannadie wrote:this was talked about in the past.
but i think a standard frame setup with ability to swap motors would be awesome. say you want the look of an R6 but dont want that much engine in it. having the option to put a 250xx engine in the exact same bike would be great. aslo once you feel your ready for more power you do an engine/tranny swap for cheaper than buying a new bike. keeping the same bike also helps with the learning curve, your used to the bikes style and position etc. adding the new engine wont change that much really.
taking that same theory and going furthor making the bike a complete modular system. if you dont like the size/look of the gas tank being able to swap it Easy with another style would be great. make components of the bike changable for a huge range of styles would be awesome. you could swap out enough parts to make the bike track ready then during the week make it more street riding. think about the things you can add/change on a car this way just with bolt on parts. bikes dont have anything likes this yet. maybe the cruisers to some point but still its usually a majour hassle to add anything let alone change it on a regular basis.
just giving more options when buying a bike would be nice, rather than picking from 2 different color plastics and thats it.
Have a good time ALL the time
