When i went to florida no one was wearing any gear, which i thought was crazy. Miami had people on vespas riding around with tanktops and flipflops
in the Keys theres a couple sports bikes the same way
I just bought a Road Runner Magazine - where at least one of the rides was in Florida - and the writer was remarking about all the kids going to college on their scooters and motorcycles - without helmets. So, they're going to school to fill up their heads with information, but they aren't in to protecting that head...

Except that guy who thought it was against his religion and wanted to wear a turban instead of a helmet. Oh yeah, he lost in that case and had to pay a fine.

Silverstein wrote:90% of the Bikers I've seen, Sportbike and and Cruisers, were not wearing any gear besides a helmet. The cruiser guys were wearing skull caps or other non-full face stuff, and the sport bikers mostly had a full face.

This one guy at my church was riding off without his helmet, (and i know he has one).
I've noticed this in NJ a lot recently. It seems that the way to go is:

(If Sportbike)
1) Full Face Helmet
2) T-Shirt
3) Shorts
4) Sneakers or boots (depending on rider)

(If Cruiser)
1) 3/4 or half helmet with visor - some with just a bit of plastic
2) T-shirt
3) Jeans
4) Boots

On rare cases I saw a guy with beautiful full body tatoos - and no shirt because he had to show them off.

I have seen a few sport bikes in local neighborhoods - with no helmet.

I do even see a few people - regardless of bike style - in full gear like me. But not many. Overall, bikers seem not to be too interested in doing what they can to save their own lives. Remarkably, the death rate is still very low given the total number of registered motorcycles.

Heh - I've seen this somewhere:

Harley rider: $1,000 in leather, no helmet

Sport biker: $1,000 helmet, tank top and shorts

Ya know, my tattoo is reason enough for me to gear up. If I wrecked the ink, I'd be bummed beyond belief. I can show it off after the jacket comes off...

You'd think a guy who's gone through getting the tattoos would do everything to protect that investment...

Any particular story behind the 'tat, Thumper?

Just wondering ... my wife's been wanting some ink, and she has a one-cylinder "thumper" ...

I got the nickname Thumper in a karate tournament 15-16 years ago--not from my indomitable kicking skills...I got a leg spasm and popped the floor a dozen times with my foot. Thinking my for (kata, poomse) needed to be bilateral, I attempted to repeat the same thing with the other leg. Everyone knew my form already and what had really happened, so they started calling me Thumper.

Between then and getting the ink, a bunch of not-so-fun things have happened. The puddle Thumper is standing in is the not so fun things.

So basically the tattoo is an inked reminder that even though all the carp has happened (lots of friends dying, family dying, a brain tumor, chronic pain) there's so much more to be overjoyed about. As long as I can, I'll try to dance in the puddle and be happy I can instead of wallowing in it.

You may gag now ;)

Maybe the cruiser guys don't wear full faced helmets as much because the really cool ones don't match their bike.
