I don't know what it's like down there, up here other than parking tickets and the like all tickets affect your insurance points or not.

I would go check the speed limit, and if it is 40 instead of 30 I'd definately fight it, yes you were speeding but you were written up for 16 over not 6 over.

I asked a friend of mine who is a FHP officer and he said that's not accurate. Like everywhere else, when you sign the citation in FL, you are only promising to appear in court, where you can plead "not guilty" if you choose. If you refuse to sign, he assures me that he would put you in the back of his car and take you to holding to await a court appearance.

I think in NJ, there's a system where you can pay more money and then you don't get the points. I think each person can only do that 3 times though.

A state approved way to beat a ticket. Sounds like Jersey.

Does it say on the ticket how he determined you were going 46? Some police officers get lazy and don't fill everything out. If they don't, or they mark confusing information, then sometimes that is your 'out' - but most people are right. Show up, plead not guilty, talk to the prosecutor/magistrate/clerk (depending on your state) and even if you're guilty they'll likely reduce the fine. A friend of mine got out of a fairly steep ticket because the officer didn't mark how he detected the speed, and neglected to fill out other parts of the form, and marked his license plate down wrong.
