My husband mentioned practicing high speed swerves when I first started riding (August). He told me to pick a spot on the highway and pretend it's roadkill. When I'm alone on the highway, I do a couple of practices each time I ride. It saved my butt about a week ago. I was heading to the city and got behind a slow moving truck. Luckily I wasn't close so I had a little reaction time when the full lane of porcupine roadkill appeared. No quills in the tires! No panic either because I knew how the bike would handle and I found my safe line and just kept cruisin'.
