All I said was that it might be something he may want to consider. If he's happy (which, it seems like he'll be) with the 650, he can fill his boots! I just know that for myself, I wouldn't be content for long with a smaller cruiser, and would want more power; especially once I put a passenger on the back.
In particular though, it is pointless to compare a car to a bike -- they're apples and oranges. I also don't know exactly where the extra 200-300 lbs is coming from, of which you speak; as the 650 V-Star has a weight of 471lbs, and the 1100 is 567; a difference of 96lbs.
Again, I only noted the opinion as something that some people might want to consider. And yes, I realize it's his first ride; though I had a rather large bike my first time out, treated it conservativly until I was experienced and made out fine. I might be a minority in that respect, but if others are a part of that same minority, they may want to think long-term as well. Relax, dude.
