I was referring to the CBR125R specifically. Although since the 125 MX class got killed off, most 125's are more or less playbikes.

I've never heard it but the Brit race 500cc thumpers was supposed to be like a symphony at the Ilse of Mann during the 50s and early 60s. My grandfather talks about it a lot.

Of course he says that the new racebikes are flashier but the racing was more exciting then too. :wink:

I'd probably be one of 10 people that would buy that bike in the USA. Too bad they can't just certify it in the USA and it would be legal for me to buy in in Canada and import it here.


For the thread... I like the CBRs. Sometime I might get one if things turn out ok with me. Especially with ABS.

As far as using the bikes to their ability... I'd be crazy if I could do that to do it on the streets and on the track - I probably lack the cohones (sp?).

I would never get a bike based on CC's. Get a bike based on fit and performance. How do you feel on the bike? These forums are full of people who have a bigger CC bike who have hopped on a friend or other members smaller bike and fell in love with it. WHile I understand your love interests are already filled (good thing) I really think to determine the bike you want, go get your @ss on one and feel it out.

Oh, do I agree with you! :D

When I started this thread I wasn't thinking clear and didn't realize it's greater ramifications on other people. My partner for one. I was simply asking from a positition of possible arrogance because I could (or used too!).

But when on another forum, they say a CBR1000RR is a good learning bike when there are in reality a few people that can get more than 20% to 30% of the bike's abilities and the bike drops a lot of profesional racers, I woke up quickly. It made me want to commit mayhem.

But the person in question is a adult (at least at times) and I shouldn't stifle her want to's. And right now there are a lot of different riding influences around her and all she knows is she want's to be in control.

But as some have said, I can't read tea leaves all that good. She needs to become more experienced and then make the right choices.

So I was meerly asking if I should reach for the bronze ring an once again ride a bike that I could only use a part of or go for a smaller bike that I could get much more out of and have more fun in the twisties. Yeah, I sorted answered my own question. Then someone said why do anything at all? And I had to say that is really the best answer that I could of gotten. For like a newbie, I can't sit back and heal. I must make things "normal" and they're not now. So I guess I'm just as deluded as my partner and no, I shouldn't do anything yet.

But I still make deals, it's just I have people doing the work now. :D

Uh, yes you did :lol:

Anyway, IMHO, the fun of sportbikes is in handling more than outright speed (especially since the outright speed in both cases is irrelevant in the real world), so yeah, I'd get the one that has more fun handling.

PS, You'll check how the riding position will affect your knee of course? Aside from knowing your own injury, you have the advantage of being able to give yourself a medical professional's opinion.

As an aside, you don't really strike me as a sportbike type, but what do I know? :wink: Good on you for liking all sorts of bikes.
