Becca try talking with some of the individuals and pairs of riders you run into when you're out and about. Quite often I find I get approached (or I approach) another rider because I'm interested in the bike and we end up swapping e-mails, because quite often others are looking for company to ride with as well. Next time a few of us are heading out I e-mail and invite the new person, we've made some great new friends this way.

I can't imagine a girl rider walking into a group of Aussie riders & ignoring you!!! We don't see many women riders & when we do it's Very Cool!

They sound like a strange bunch to me. I can't imagine ALL the Men were afraid to talk to you because of their wife's?? If so....what a bunch of Pussie cats.

I wonder if they were intimidated by you?

Why don't you move over here to OZ, the 'Friendly' country....Ha Ha!

Thanks OZ, :)
To be fair I am a very shy person when meeting new people and I didn't exactly jump in and say Hi, (I just stood on the fringes looking lost I think :)) Anyway, there are a couple of women riders around but the total motorcycle riders around here are very few. It is a small southern town :) The two women riders I know of are very very tuff, one of them doesn't wear shoes AT ALL. Not even when she rides and I was dressed a little more "trendy" than anyone else there. They were also quite a bit older than I am. Unfortunatly there are very few riders my age at all. Maybe I should move down under, Need any good ESE teachers down there :D!!

Becca
I guess I am a little eccentric even for motorcyclist!!

I've found this line will get just about any biker talking:

"Man, that's a sweet ride, how do you like it?"

They'll babble about it for a while, you can steer the convo towards good roads, nice places for food and on and on and on.

A quick followup of, "if you're ever looking for someone to ride with..." will usually get you some riding partners.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

If this group only meet once a week to eat, then you shouldn't be expect much from them. There is a different between riding club and social group, I believe.

If you really wanna join riding club I think you should be able to find some in your area. "Southern Cruiser Club" also have local chapter all over USA.

I join riding club where you will be riding with the group all day and also eat & talk. this kind of group is the one you are looking for. I also see a group at restaurant very close to my house, there are about 50-100 bikes every weekend (most of them are HD), I do not and not even think to join this group since they are a bunch of ppl who come to eat and drink and then go home. I do not wanna waste my precious weekend just sitting in the bar and talk about bike/HD.

My .02 IMHO
