I live in the country. Just went out to put the trash out and counted 33 deer on my front lawn.
A couple of months ago was riding to my sons home at night. A deer came rushing across the road. I was lucky to miss it by mille inches. Since then, I ride much slower at night on that road. Saturday, went to the next town over from ours. Counted 5 dead deer on the road. Sure hope they were hit by cages and not a brother or sister on a motorcycle.
What the **** ! (deer behavior tip)

You can't go slowly enough either at night or when riding on roads bordered directly by trees where deer can suddenly unexpectedly run out from. I thought 45 was going to be slow enough just before dusk, but no, one ran in front of me so close I had no chance to do anything but hit the brakes, but even so it was too little too late.
They're definitely not the brightest, and as was said, anytime you see one, expect more, and expect them to do completely illogical things.

Neighbor run over by a deer
My nextdoor neighbor called last Sunday night to say he was leaving his own drive way on his Honda Scooter when a deer knocked him to the ground. He also drives a Goldwing and this was his first mishap in over 45,000 miles.
He was going to the store for his girl friend to get some ice cream. He went into his house for treatment from the road rash and went to the store for ice cream and peroxide.
I came home Friday night from a high school football game and drove down our country road at 20 MPH. My eyes were moving constantly.

Old is better than the alternative
I was in my first group emergency stop a couple weeks ago. We weren't going very fast because of the posibility of deer. We had 8 bikes come to a complete stop on the highway while a herd sauntered across! A few miles down the road, my husband flicked his right signal. We were nowhere near an intersection, so I looked to see what he saw - about 7 deer were racing us in the ditch!
