Now you know why Harley will be opening up an assembly plant there. They wanted to break into the Indian market and it was the easiest way to get around the import tariffs. There are 1.18 billion people there (April 2010 estimate), if they can grab just 4% of that figure they'll have a customer base of 47 MILLION!

4%???

Aren't you being a little optimistic?

The US is by far the most popular market for Harleys and I bet the percentage of the population that they grab is more like 0.04%, and that's being ultra generous. No way that India is going to come even close to 0.04%.

you are right. Here, a harley costs as much as a small family car with all the import duties. even with a local assembly plant the cheapest harley costs 14400 US dollars, thats not gonna do volumes when locally produced motorcycles cost 2000-3000 dollars.

I adjusted the suspension to the 'mid' settings for the front and the back and although the ride has become a bit soft, the problem has gone away quite a bit. however, i noticed that the distance of the of the handlebar from the tank from lock to lock is irregular. when i turn full left the handle is much closer to the tank than the right. i checked and rechecked the tank and the handlebar positioning, both are sitting arrow straight. could this be the cause of my oversteering problem?

Wow everyone - great advice! It's nice to see the community working together to help out our fellow member!
Sorry but I cannot give any mechanical advice to this thread but wanted to say that you definitely chose a fabulous bike to import, it will be worth the cost once it's all fixed up!

I haven't had the chance to check one of these out in person, but look at the steering lock on it. It's very possible that the welded tabs on the neck won't allow it to turn as far one way as it does the other so as not to pinch or stretch lines.
Glad it's a lot better for you though!
