when i ride with people i know and i know theres a radar ahead i usually point to my speedometer, and they get the idea. maybe the tapping on the head followed by tapping the speedometer might be better? course thats alot of signs to try and get in when someone is speeding towards you lol.

In Africa it is the slow hand thing that does it for us, however most guys here either have, no plate, photo blocker, radar jammers, swing plates or lots of mud on the plates. Our cameras are not for the safety aspect but are a scource of revenue for our corrupt goverment.

Oncoming traffic is on my right so I flash my lights on the bike. If it makes you feel any better our government isnt that much better...

You do this while IN the intersection? I might wait till safely through it before takeing my hand off the bars, in case I needed to do some 'accident avoidage'.

Here in Memphis TN we use the "pat on the helmet" technique to warn of police also. I have saved and been saved MANY times to this.

On the wearing a helmet topic I am nuetral. I feel it should be YOUR choice but I, myself, wear one. The thing is I do wear a non-DOT lid from time to time if I am just going to bike night gatherings where I sit alot and don't do much riding. That thing wouldn't be much better than nothing at all but I will "look cool" as my brain matter is laid across the asphalt. J/K
I do think it should be the riders choice as do I believe for seatbelts in vehicles but that's a whole other can of worms.
