I want a modular helmet, but so far I haven't found one that fits well. In the meantime I wear a full face.
A couple of summers ago when the temperatures soared for a couple of weeks, I actually wore a half helmet for a week. It made a tremendous difference in being able to deal with the heat.

In that case you need a better ventilating full face helmet. With my Exo 400 if I opened up every vent it was actually cooler than riding with no helmet. Exo 500 is noisy if I open up the top vents, but I'm looking at getting the 1100.

I went with the EXO 900. It is an actual modular helmet. Silver, figured it might reflect the heat a little better.

I guess I'm still okay with helmet laws. I ride around my neighbourhood without a helmet, have been spotted by LEO, but never ticketed, but on the road, I want my helmet on for protection (crash, bugs, rocks).
I used a 3/4 and loaned it to my mom many years ago -- she wrecked my old bike and her face. Still, it kept her head in one piece (still have nightmares about that crash in slow motion).
I also where bifocals and use a modular helmet. Works very well. I can open the screen for more air (esp in town, slow speed), or open it completely at fuel stops/talking etc. BUT, these helmets are heavy and loud on the road. So there is a trade-off.
Full face is great, but getting it on over my glasses, or trying to put glasses on after the helmet drove me to the modular.
The freedom issue kind of bugs me too. I've been riding since I was 4-5 years old. I have seen so many men and woman trash their faces and it doesn't go away. If you are rich, maybe there is a plastic surgeon that can help, but for many, will, glad it was them and not me. shrug.
But then the other side of the coin is the ATGATT guys riding 200MPH thinking they are invincible. We all have read the stories, seen the debris . .
