The bike has plenty of torque so I don't feel I lose much in performance...still, that's a big load. I just wish I rode alone...I'm risking only my life...passengers are too ready to put their lives in someone else's hands....but women want to ride with you.
They only want to ride with me once.

Not all women...my daughters, sisters, wife's friends all want me to take them for rides...but not wifey...she says "maybe if you get a Victory..." although she doesn't mean a Victory really, just a standard cruiser without faring...she doesn't like sport bikes, and I think she likes the Victory name...but I think my next bike will be a sport touring bike, or maybe a touring bike...but I can't see a Victory Vegas in my near future unless she allows me to have two bikes, then I'm all in!!
As for your situation with your significant other, she really wants to ride with you so I wouldn't discourage it...just have the talk about how to be a good passenger and let her know that you are still learning how to ride, so she has to be helpful...and don't forget the gear...I bought helmet, riding jacket, gloves & boots for my daughter (bought a little big, so that others can use them and she has growing room)
Just let her know that she needs to be as still as possible, unless she lets you know that she needs to shift around...otherwise you could go down, even when stopped...
Later.

I'm happy that I bought my lady a good heavy leather jacket this weekend....now with the helmet she has good gear.

^ Excellent advice here! I love the one where the passenger has to get her own bike! Lol.
