I totally agree with you. I know I trend to ride and drive fast but no matter how fast I go at that time (80-90mph) and there is no car on the right I will move to the right to let whoever faster than me pass. You might go faster than speed limit but there also still ppl wanna go faster than you.

I have seen a lot of ppl that drive only 70-75mph and stay on the most left lane. I assumed they think they drive over speed limit so they can block all the traffic. One more typical "THE LAZY" these are ppl who too lazy to move or change lanes, they trend to drive at the most left lane so they don't have to change lane at all.

Have you even seen the 4-5 lanes FWY jam-up for no reason? That becuz one or two car drive at may be speed limit or a little bit over but stay on the 2 fastest lane. I've seen that a lot on my bike.

People do it all the time in Washington and it kills me. They think that the car pool lane is their. If they are in a minivan with two kids in it and they are going 70 - they aren't moving for anyone. As a result, we all get we we are going much slower. Occasionally I will see a sign that says "keep right except to pass". But people rarely do. I think they should run a public service commercial like they do for seatbelts and littering and try to get people comply. It's an education issue - people don't want to "pee" everybody off, they just don't know any better or choose not to think about it.

I plan to lobby for a 'shoot to kill" option on improper lane usage. My big thing these days on I-5 is the "truck races", where one truck changes to the center lane, presumably to pass, then just sits there, going exactly the same speed as the truck he looks like he is trying to pass. Grrrrrr.

Move right except to pass is a lost art. I don't think more than 25% of drivers are even considering it... especially on multi lane highways. These days there's almost as much passing on the right as there is on the left. I don't know what would solve it really, but I think a public education campaign would help. It wouldn't involve building new roads and it just might help cut down congestion a little. With our busted situation in Wa I'm sure it confuses some people. at some point in our lives we all heard, 'move right except when passing'. But we have the car pool lane on the left. You get to ride in it if you have more than one person in your car. Some people camp out in there going 55 if they have a full car so we've effectively lost our 'left lane' for faster traffic. They incentivized people to get more people in the car, which is good, but they screwed everyone else, which is bad. A carpool lane does nothing positive in the final analysis if they in effect remove the passing lane.

So, you are right, someone needs to be shot.

It used to be real exciting when someone would get tired of sitting in the center lane watching the hov lane cars whiz by, and decide to just jump out there and take their chances with getting caught. Much tire-screeching and crashing.

I think last year PA passed a law that cruising in the passing lane is illeagal. At least that's what the radio said. I dont know how they plan on enforcing it.

Dont worry, WA, it's just as bad on the east coast for drivers in the passing lane doing the speed limit or less. I used to flash my high beams at a car (usually on a cell phone) to let them know that I want to pass and they should move over and let me (and the line of cars behind me) pass. Sometimes they moved, sometimes they got peed off. However, I stopped doing it when I highbeamed an undercover cop He didnt pull me over, but I decided that flashing the highs might not be a good idea in the future.

I don't know when flashing your lights at someone became a personal insult or an invitation to brawl. If you don't both have cb's, it's about the only way to communicate on the highway. Nowadays if you flash your lights at someone to say 'let me through', up goes the middle finger. We're all a bit too tightly wound these days.

Well, my middle finger doesnt go up until someone takes my right of way. It goes up faster if there is no signal or acknowlegement of my presence on the roadway. Giving the horn a toot or two ensures that they're looking when they see me "waving" at them .

Seriously, though, people near this big city are too much in a hurry, too much "me me me me me", and take offense at the drop of a hat (or the flick of a headlight). Oh, and they drive like pansies in the snow, or even rain . It must be the rat race. I cant wait to leave this city for a simpler, more relaxed atmosphere.

Hmmm, probably offended a few city slikers with that. Ah well, just a rant, pay no attention to the main behind the curtain . .

No matter how you slice it , driving over the speed limit is breaking the law . Some of you make it sound like that's ok . Well peeps , I got news for ya , It ain't!

So, today I was in major traffic on the I-5 (LA), and I'm seeing a lot of bikes going by, checking out their sleds...im jealous im not out in my bike...and I see this guy on a duc monster and this accord in the fast lane didnt move over for him and his car drifted just a bit towards the bike (traffic was about 10-15 mph, nothing fast),

the biker had to move out of the way a bit, and then when he is passing the accord, he moves into his lane, cutting him off more and more, he keeps cutting him off until the accord had to brake to not hit the center divider. I was expecting a FINGER from the biker, but he didn't flip him off. I thought the biker was a jerk.

When a car does a shady move to me when I'm on my bike I usually shake my head and do the finger tap on the helmet saying "THINK" kinda thing. I would never cut another car off especially on LA freeways.

Not to mention all the biker movies and the general american (global?) notion that bikers = trouble. Oh well. c'est la vie.
