MASHBY wrote:Greetings to you all.I was just wondering if any one would be interested in the first TMW Alberta Ride Out this year.Nothing has been set in stone as of yet.So was just curious if any of you BC Lot would be interested in meeting up.We will be going into the rockies so heading in your direction.Im sure if a few of you are interested we could meet in the middle some where.
Ahh but we're a disfunctional lot out here, and scattered all over the country wouldn't ya know. It sounds like a geat idea. As for myself I had bypass surgery this winter and though I am riding again I think I must limit myself to less than Ironbutt type rides, which essentially means I'll be sticking on the island. Now then, if someone happens to have plans to make it onto the Rock here with the rest of us, I'd be more than happy to accompany you and show you what little I know about it.

I have not yet had the pleasure of riding in Vancouver, but soon will. Coming over for the Motley Crue concert this Summer, so I will get the downtown Vnacouver riding thrills.

What's the bike theft situation like over there, do I need to wrap my Ninja in chains and concrete blocks to make it's still there after the show??

I don't know if chains and concrete blocks would stop someone determined, but, I would definitely lock your bike.

Unfortunately, bike theft and car theft are high. I lock mine with a disc lock even if I'm only going into a coffee shop for coffee.

If you are not familiar with traffic in Vancouver, here's a couple of tips.

Leave lots of following distance between you and the car in front and lots of space in front of you when you're stopped.
Make sure to stay out of driver's blind spots. So many really do not shoulder check or even bother to signal, so keep your eyes moving.

I hope you enjoy the concert.

Thanks for the tips, will remember those. I have two rotor locks, will take 'em both I think. Motley Crue is not worth loosing my ride over that's for sure.

Motorcycles to Take Over the Streets of Gastown/B.C. Coalition of Motorcyclists 20th Anniversary

Mark your calendars early for the biggest motorcycle event the streets of Vancouver have ever seen! On Sunday, June 5, 2005, the B.C. Coalition of Motorcyclists, in conjunction with the Gastown Business Improvement Society (GBIS) and the Gastown Merchants Association, will be closing down Water Street between Carrall and Richards to put on the first ever all make Gastown Motorcycle Show n' Shine in the heart of Vancouver! They will also be celebrating BCCOM’s 20th Anniversary and 20 years of lobbying for motorcyclists rights. The GBIS is also responsible for putting on such popular events as the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and the Tour de Gastown bicycle race.

Gastown is a very unique setting for a motorcycle event. Steeped in history, it is where Vancouver originated, named after the first settler and saloon owner "Gassy Jack" Deighton. Imagine hundreds of custom bikes in every make and model lined up along the cobble stone streets, with the backdrop of brick heritage buildings. It will definitely be an event that you do not want to miss!

There's a couple of other toy runs that happen in the fall, but I can't seem to find the exact dates at the moment.
There is a toy run on the Sunshine Coast and one in the Fraser Valley usually around the same time as the Vancouver one that starts in Coquitlam.
old-n-slow, do you happen to know the dates of those 2 events?

Hey Blues2cruise.

I couldn't find anything on them. Perhaps as the date grows closer? Maybe they will have posters in the local Bike Stealerships.
