My cell phone is the only phone I have, and unless I'm in the john or in a meeting I will always answer it, including in the car. I also make outgoing calls from the car. Hell, for that matter, I have answered the phone while on the bike on several occasions. With a full-time job, a full-time college schedule, and three little ones to keep track of, I pretty much have to rely on my phone to stay halfway connected to what's going on.

wow..im surprised by so many of the same adamant responses. its actually fairly often ill be driving my car and it will ring or i realize i need to make a call. ive never been in a situation where ive endangered anyone else on the road (swerving, last minute braking, etc..) due to my 'lack of concentration'. ive always been able to pay attention to exactly what im doing, and if traffic gets hectic, i will tell the other person on the line i should probably go because traffic is getting bad and i need to concentrate on it. this could also be due to the fact that by nature, im probably the most alert person in the world, lol

Yeah, I'll make calls whilst driving... BUT... I do have a professional car kit for it, and anyone I'm talking to has to accept that my concentration is on the road, not the call

I came back to this thread because these days I have started to see even more of this behaviour. It drives me crazy when someone can't seem to drive and use the phone and I don't think anyone who does this thinks they are being dangerous. Yesterday in my car I almost got run off the road by a no signal lane changer, while he was on the phone. I bet there are many who can do this and be relatively safe, but the few yo-yos who have almost killed me make me think this is a crime of the top degree. I myself let people go to voice mail or pull over. But that may just be my pet peave.

Almost all studied have recognized the dangers of driving while talking on the phone. This is also a pet peeve of mine. But until the govt realizes that the benefit of enforcing a law against driving on the cell is greater than the cost to the cities to enforce it, nothing will change.

If people are using their cell and get into an accident, I consider it reckless endangerment or operating a vehicle while under the influence. Their reaction time would have been better if they were chugging a beer than yacking on the phone.

But, no one cares. As I read sadly in one particular article, a woman who admits driving while talking constantly on the phone with her 11 month old baby girl in the back seat was quoted saying, "I'm not going to tell people I can't talk now because I'm driving."

Until law enforcement wakes up to the problem (and as the problem only gets worse as cellphones become more common and features are added - like surfing the internet and watching video clips), watch out!

Stupid people do stupid things. The reason you don't notice the people who can drive and talk on a cell phone is because they can do it. You notice the numbskulls who can't.

When you're riding your bike and someone pulls out in front of you, you think "That idiot can't see a bike." No. That idiot is the same idiot who pulled out in front of the tractor/trailer last week. The truck driver thought "That idiot can't see a tractor/trailer."

Stupid is just plan stupid. It has nothing to do with the machine involved.

I suspect most everyone has done something stupid at one time or another. I know I have.

I don't own a cell phone. I barely use the house phone. Life is good!

I'm the same way. Haven't had a land line in years. I'm also really weird about missing calls. My mom is 85 and lives 3,000 miles away. I'm just always scared that it'll be important so I always answer. But I don't yhave to look at the phone to answer it and if it isn't important and I'm driving the cage I just say that I'll call back as soon as I stop. I DO answer when driving, but I try to get off asap and I almost always wait til stopping to make outgoing calls.
