Singles and twins are also more versatile - they are much better in the dirt for example. There's a reason why there aren't any 4-cyl offroad bikes or even adventure tourers for that matter.
Singles are better in the dirt because there is only one power pulse per 2 engine revolutions. The time between power pulses allows the rear tire to regain some traction before the next pulse.
A four cyl delivers 4 pulses per revolution, less time between pulses so the tires slip more.
For dirt, the singles rule. Even a v-twin or parallel twin is at a disadvantage in the dirt.

Er, how about the last two outta three moto-gp races then?????
And without the years and years of competing with bigger engines they would not be in the position to win one or two races in the history of the MotoGP.

That would be a 990cc V-4.....no bigger than anyone elses. Are you implying that when the rules allowed 1000cc twins vs.750cc 4cylinders in Superbike up until 3 years ago that this somehow gave them an unfair advantage in Moto-gp today??????
Whoa, now thats a stretch......
How could it not be an advantage?
If Ducati were unable to compete against the big boys, why would they bother to keep trying to produce world class racing engines?
It has been an advantage to their engine developers to be able to compete at a level greater than their technology allowed.
It would be the same as a B grade football team playing in the A league. Eventually they are going to figure out how to play better just by playing against better teams.

Oxymoron??????
And I thought I was having fun arguing both sides....but at least it was intentional.......
Moto-Gp = Apples
Superbike 3 years ago = Oranges
As for Ducati competing with the big boys, do you even follow racing????

Apparently no more than you follow a discussion. Try reading my replies without your obvious bias toward Ducati. .
For the record I ride a Honda.....the Ducati belongs to the wife. As for following a discussion, if you actually go back and read what I have written in this thread you will see that I pointed out the hillarity on both sides of the discussion.

Oxymoron? Point out my contradiction.
Perhaps you need to go back and re-read what you have written yourself....
And while you are making yourself look silly, I'll help you out a bit

Read my response to you three posts up. I did say "Oxymoron?????", so technically I was asking if it was one. Perhaps I should have just said bassackwards logic......
