Just my two cents, but the best thing you can do if you're going to lead a ride is make sure everyone knows where you're going and exactly how to get there. If they fall behind or get bored they can meet up with you at designated wait spots (for a long ride) or the final destination.
When I ride with my friends everyone know where we're going, and there's only 4 of us, so we'll take turns leading, passing when safe and adjusting staggering as appropriate. Everyone knows each others skills, and if we get separated, well we all know how to get there.
When I ride with my Uncle's club (typically 10-20 bikes). We have one guy lead and it's always at the posted speed limit. Everyone in the ride is willing to clip along a little faster then is legal, so if you get left behind in a turn you catch up further down the road. But you don't need to rush it.
Like Zoo says, "Ride your own ride!!!!" Makes doubly sure they know that. You won't be waiting on the highway for stragglers, and if they want to go faster, they do so on their own. If they choose to showboat they better be either WAY WAY in front, or way the hell back. I don't want to see it.
