I know that the board doesn't like endorsement of products on the board, but I feel really strong about the safety of this product. It isn't cheap, I paid about $100 for it and had the Honda dealer install it, which cost me about another $80. But safety is well worth it!!
Here is the link to the module. I have no affiliation with that company, but when I was doing research on what to get, this was by far the best thing I found on the market. It's a lot more expensive the the Back-Off module that a lot of people use, but it is a lot more powerful and does a lot more.

Thanks for the link. I think the safety aspect alone is worth the 100 bucks... hell, even 200 bucks. My next bike will have that installed on it.

That was the curse of the street I was on... a narrow two lane road with parking on one side of the street and the opposing lane on the other with no parking on the side. I had absolutely no where to go... except forward. And, well... she did that for me.

I have to admit, as much as I'd love to get an Italian Stallion like the mighty Duc... I'm such a tightwad that I hate to blow any significant money on maintenance. Ducs are maintenance intensive and expensive to work on.
I went and looked at some bikes yesterday... boy was that a mistake! I just wanted to walk through the shop saying, "I'll take one of those... and one of those... and throw a couple of those in too"! Too many choices...
Next month I'm going to set up a ride day. The dealership said they'd line up every bike that I'm interested and let me ride them back to back. That's gonna rule!!!

Hey, just noticed your signature...congas?...bongos...darbuka... djembe? What about other percussion stuff like gourds, afuche/cabasa, rainsticks, shakers, chimes, vibraslap, you name it? That's the stuff I play in the church band...love my percussion!

Actually... I just beat the skins off a 4 piece tama kit and frequently destroy cymbals. Well, that and I punish a cowbell like no one's business!

Ah, the cowbell...They won't let me use that very often in church...it really cuts! I have one ready, though! Good to know there's another drummer here, and that you live to drum another day!

Man, I'd love to track down your previous doctor, and well, I won't say it, but it wouldn't be pretty. Had you been hit in a car, you still could have suffered whiplash - even in a seat belt. The fact that she denied you medical services and a proper diagnosis based only on the fact that you were on a motorcycle is crazy. I'm so glad that you complained to the insurance carrier. Maybe you might consider forwarding the complaint to the hospital and to the AMA.
I'm so glad that you're (relatively) okay. It's hard to hear stories like this, but it is a good reminder for us all. Have fun shopping for your new ride when the time comes.

I think it is time for the engineer's and hobbyist's in the forums to start posting schematics for various safety warning devices.
This kind of "poo poo" can be avoided by using a small sonar ranging device that's plugged into the back of the device. If a vehicle is approaching too fast from the rear, then mebbe a warning light or audible alarm goes off.
Methinks I'll rig something up and test it once Im back in school
