I got my first wave yesterday. Was puttin around by the college near here, and happened by a fellow biker

I did the same goofy "hi there!" kinda wave, but oh well.
I'm really not looking foreward to having vans and trucks pass by me. Even when I'm driving my girlfriend's car I get pushed all over the place.
On the subject of learning what your bike can do (yesterday was the first good day of practice I've been able to get in due to mechanical problems), I found that my bike can stop from 45 mph in the length of a parking space. It didn't take me very long to learn the difference between 'grabbing' and 'squeezing' the front brake

i got my permit early last month and they said i have 1 yr to pass the DMV riding test before it expires.
im just gonna take the BRC and get a DL389 form to waive the riding test. im gonna take the BRC this coming Feb 18. so hopefully, i'll have my license this month.

heres my take on the "Grab" vs the "Squeeze"
Squeeze front brake = slow down motorcycle
Grab front brake = test effectiveness of riding gear

yeah, i had another one of those moments where i was moving a little fast but not fast enough to beat the yellow light.
i gradually applied brakes... i went over the white line but at least, i didn't lock my wheels.
and damn im so weak... after that, i put my bike on neutral to try to duck walk my bike backwards but since the road is a little slanted, i couldn't back it up. so i just sat there and waited for the green light.

I had that problem before until I realized I was trying to push backways with my "O Ring". Make sure you're pulling it with your arms rather then your "O Ring" and you can back up easy.

arms eh? i'll try that, i think im mostly using my legs to back it up.
and noob question! what do you mean by "O Ring"?
it's not in the bikers dictionary here in TMW.

it turns @$$ into "o-ring". So you walk backwards a bit and pull the bike with your arms.
