I'll bet dollars to donuts that yours will work like this:

1) pull off the lower fairing
2) on the shifter/clutch side on the bottem of the engine there will be a downspout with a bolt stuck up into the bottem of it. This is where you drain the oil Remember to replace the bolt!!!! about 15ft/lbs of torue (manual will be specific)
3) oilpan underneath, remove the bolt, don't drop it in the oilpan
4) In the front of the engine behind the downpipes will be a black cylinder 2-3 inches in diameter (your manual will show it better) this is your filter
5) remove the filter and spill some oil on your downpipes, wipe this off
6) replace the filter with the new one that you already bought, most moto-stores should carry the one you need. Remember to run a little oil around the o-ring to ensure a proper seal. I twisted it on hand tight +1/4 turn more
7) somewhere along the right hand side of the engine will be a drain cap, this is where you add the new oil (will be labelled in the manual) add your oil here, the manual will tell you how much it will take.
8) check your site, or dipstick to make sure it has enough (after replacing the cap)
9) turn it over then stop it, check oil levels again (add more if required)
10) check for leaks


Pretty simple, this is all based off my bike, which should have essentially the same engine. Take a scout around and see what you see.

It is not complex or difficult to do. Really, the worst thing that can happen is you don't add enough oil, or you don't tighten it tight enough and it leaks. You're checking for both before you do any riding, so it won't hurt the engine, because the engine won't have time to dry out.

Hahaha, you can so do this.

Canadian Tire had my filter, which means that Walmart or anything similar should have one for you.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

well yeah, i bet i could do the oil change by following those directions.

but i know there's other stuff to check for the 1st maintenance. that's the more tricky part.

Your manual will have a list of everything that needs to be checked and at what intervals. If you want I'll head out to the garage and unship mine from my bike to give you an example off my Honda.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

that's the other problem... the damn manual they gave me was for the '03 model.

anyway, it says in the 03 manual that for the 1st 600, i need to...

- *tighten exhaust pipe bolts and muffler bolts
- *inspect/clean/adjust/replace/lubricate whichever apply to exhaust valve
- replace engine oil and filter
- inspect/clean/adjust/replace/lubricate whichever apply to idle speed
- inspect/clean/adjust/replace/lubricate whichever apply to throttle cable play
- *inspect/clean/adjust/replace/lubricate whichever apply to throttle valve synchronization
- inspect/clean/adjust/replace/lubricate whichever apply to drive chain
- *inspect/clean/adjust/replace/lubricate whichever apply to brakes
- *inspect/clean/adjust/replace/lubricate whichever apply to steering
- *tighten bolts and nuts on chasis

*says that a suzuki dealer or a qualified mechanic should do it.

again this is for the '03, probably the same maintenance required but im not sure.

More then likely they gave you the manual for the '03 model because not enough has changed to warrant writing and printing an all new '06 one.

now that i look at that list, i think it will be worth the money since i don't think i have all the tools i'll need.

Well... $12000 bike... $200 maintenance... sort of seems piddling in comparisson. I'd spend the money to protect the inventment.

close, it's 11K not 12K :D

i'll call some dealers around here. hopefully, it's not gonna exceed $300.

the guy that mentioned $250 had an R6... i don't see a reason why i'll get charged a whole lote more higher than that.
