those underarmor garments are a good reason for you to make sure you NEVER have a getoff at speed. Your leathers will generate sufficient heat while sliding/tumbling across the pavement to fuse the material of your shirt to your skin - making for an extended and miserable stay in the hospital.
A lower ISO, or perhaps metering for a bright area would have made that photo a lot cooler, as it is the sun is blowing out the entire frame. Expose for the bright area and you would have gotten a nice silouhette of your bike.

mine too, your tires were fine, newer 'better' tires are not the problem. Let us know how these new ones do

just wondering Verm, how do you find your groups for the ACH rides? I know ACH VERY well, both the paved and the unpaved parts and im hard pressed to find a decent group to go riding with, not that i can yet but i still look. As for the guys who crashed, doesnt suprise me, at least one person dies every month on the ACH, at least one, people fly up there so fast its a miracle that its not one a day.

well... i didn't touch down.
but it's ok... at least i got my confidence back and i even gained confidence on right handers (thanks to my new DCIIIs).
in fact... i got so into practicing right handers that my chicken strips on the right is already down to .13" while my left is still at .25"
on my previous tires it was the other way around... .13" on the left and .25" on the right. it's ok though... i can easily put my left to .13" again next time i ride.
i talked to other riders and they told me it's not that i lack speed since when they were behind me... they said they're already dragging and we were about the same speed.
they said my body position is ok too.
so i guess that means they're just taking a much sharper line/turn.
they did say though that i was already close to dragging. oh well... maybe next time.
I LOOK FAT!

BEST PIC I CAN FIND

MY GEAR STILL MATCHES MY BIKE

i have pin pointed my problem though...
when i countersteer.... i find myself putting pressure on the other bar so that hinders me from pushing my bike to lean more. i tried to fix it several times but i can't get it right. they told me to just relax the other hand but it's not working good for me.
i think i should work on using both hands to steer and get used to the feeling of pushing w/ one hand and pulling w/ the other. instead of pushing w/ one hand and just relaxing the other hand.
anyway... im just glad i got my confidence back. that's enough for that day.
and JWF505...
every saturday at 9a @ the shell station on the 210 ACH exit... there's always people there.

V, those are some great pics. I agree with the one you like best, its best.
If your friends are 'dragging knee' at the same speed that you are going, then your friends are dragging knee for no apparent reason.
I can't imagine being able to lean well at all with half my body flopping off the bike like you seem to be. In pic 3 you look like you are really trying to hit your knee to the pavement, but your lean isn't even close. You need to practice tightening your turns and increasing your leans, not hanging off the bike and sticking your knee out as far as humanly possible. You need to tuck those knees in and lean as far over as you can with your body well planted on the bike...that will help you increase your lean and, over time, you will eventually get low enough to make it necessary for you to drag your knee.
You aren't there yet...and I'd be willing to bet that your buddies who say they drag knee aren't there yet either, but they stick out their legs in order to accomplish it just so they can say they did.
Dragging knee is a result of good turning skill. Dragging knee is not a skill in of itself. At your current skill level, your leans are very high...you're doing yourself a disservice by practicing the way you are.

nope... the guys that are dragging don't have chicken strips... unlike me.
i think when i finally get rid of that .13" strip... i'll be dragging as well. if not... then i guess my legs aren't long enough or my rearsets is just higher so i need even more aggressive leans to drag knee.
here's a pic of some of the guys i talked to...

oh and im sticking my knee out in prepartion for the turn. that's pretty common since if you take sharp turns, which i think is the reason im not dragging even if i have the speed... then you will drag knee upon entry.
if you watch some races... racers do it.
also... i can't believe how tiring it is to stick your knee out. at the end of the day i got this MASIVE cramp on my thighs just above the knee. they all rush in to help, gave me water and made sure i was fine before they left.
and i agree... knee dragging is overrated... but to those of us that haven't done it yet... it's something to be happy about when you accomplish it.
i have yet to get it out of my system since i haven't done it yet.

What kind of camera was used for these shots? I'm amazed at that speed that your wheels look absolutely still...and there's no blurring at all.

no idea what camera... but we were only going around the 45mph area if that matters.CNF2002 wrote:What kind of camera was used for these shots? I'm amazed at that speed that your wheels look absolutely still...and there's no blurring at all.

Many cameras will be able to do a 1/1000s shutter speed in broad daylight. My Canon A530 will be able to take a picture like that.. but not zoomed in.
For that, any camera with a large lens will do. Olympus SP-500, etc. And of course any DSLR.
