Has anyone here rode on the Okanagan? I'm thinking about visiting my friends in Kelowna (I live in Abbotsford).

I have ridden from Vancouver to the Okanagan via both the Coquihalla and the Fraser Canyon.
What would you like to know?

Just wondering how the ride is like. I don't plan to go until spring for the earliest. I know how bad it can get around this time. The only major nuisance would be stopping for gas every 50 mins or so. One of the reasons why I want my next bike to have a bigger tank.

Your bike must have a really tiny tank. You would certainly have to plan your fuel stops. I can go from my place to Hope. Fuel up and then to Kamloops and fuel up.
If your tank is that small you may have to go the Fraser Canyon to get access to more fuel sources or the Hope Princeton. It's an awesome route to ride.
My personal favourite is the Hope Princeton through Manning Park and Princeton and on to the Okanagan that way.
But if you are looking for a longer trip you could go the Fraser Canyon to Spences Bridge( no fuel in Spences Bridge anymore....fuel up before there) and go # 8 to Merritt. From Merritt you could go via the Connector to Kelowna or you could go the Old Quilchena Hwy through Kamloops and then cut off towards Vernon and then to Kelowna. It would add a couple of hours to your trip.
The Fraser Canyon is a decent highway as is most of #8. The Old Quilchena Hwy can be a bit lumpy in places but otherwise ok.
If you are a person who needs to be passing to be happy, you better stick with the Coquihalla. You'd have to fuel up in Hope. Fuel in Merritt. Fuel in Westbank. Wide sweeping curves on the Coke and good sight lines. $5.00 toll.
#3 has lots of tight twisty curves with not so great sight lines, but if you follow the suggested speeds for them you will be fine. Lots of bikers on this route.
#1 Some tight twisty bits, but a lot have decent sight lines. It's tempting to look at the scenery so you have to be disciplined to keep your eyes on the road and traffic. The tunnels are kind of fun. Be patient...the passing lanes are coming up soon.

Depends on you route. The Coq is fast but boring as hell....Highway 1 is dodgy at best, lots of blind corners and a number of snow sheds/tunnels to deal with, but it is pretty.
Best bet is the Hope-Princeton to Penticton then Kelowna. Nice fast ride (in places), plus good scenery and stops along the well to shake out the kinks, drain the lizard and top up on coffee and fuel.

I will be out of town....perhaps next year.
If you want to be near the front of the parade, get there early.

Yes, I saw the topic of the post.
The toy run is an event I don't like to miss. Although something about a trip to SF last fall seemed to put a kink in the last one....
I will be there on my trusty Valk....

I guess it's a good thing I am not riding right now then...or I might ask you to tag along to Calgary instead.
