Those danged teens and their garage bands...
Well, teens at heart anyway!
Sounds great Gummi!
But umm, is that a bicycle helmet you're wearing or is the light playing weird on your hair?

Soviet era paratrooper's helmet, actually. I do ride a Russian sidecar rig, after all.

Angie and I decided to try out our new snowshoes that we got for Xmas today. We drove my truck out to McCormick's Sideroad, one of my fave Ural routes, which is not maintained in the winter. I figured it would be a good place to go for a romp in the snow, as the road doubles as a snowmobile trail through the winter and doesn't get used much. Mom and Dad are visiting for the holidays, so we took their dog - Hector's brother Jess - along for the day...
Image

Angie, ever the fashion conscious doll, was looking radiant in her outfit...
Image

While I had opted for my Russian Spetsnatz Commando look...
Image

There had been some snowmobile activity on the road but it was a few days since the last sled had gone down it, so there were a few inches of fresh snow on top of a hard track. Perfect for snowshoeing. We ambled along the trail (well, Angie and I ambled while the dogs tear-assed around the countryside) and enjoyed the -4C temp and beautiful snow covered scenery. We found a small burbling brook and took a short break to let the dogs take a drink and splash around for a bit before moving on...
Image

By the halfway point Hector was starting to get tired, so we stopped for a rest...
Image

Jess, however, was still full of energy and spent the whole break romping about in the deep snow off the trail...
Image

After a photo op, we were on our way again...
Image

We continued up the trail to the top of a long hill, where we decided to turn around and head back...
Image

We stopped at the brook for another refreshing drink...
Image

And then the dogs and I stepped up the pace so we could get the truck all warmed up for when Angie caught up...
Image

We were only out for a little over an hour, but both dogs and humans were pretty worn out by the end. But it was such fun that we'll be doing it again, hopefully tomorrow!

Looks like all had a wonderful time out in the woods Mike.

Here's wishing you, Angie and Hector all the very best for 2009!

Hopefully Gummi forgives me for hijacking his blog. The subject is of course Doukhbor The Wonder Bike, and its Chief Engineer, none other than Gummiente himself.

(Please note, despite Gummi's best efforts to foster a contrary impression, Urals can actually function without a layer of ice or snow between their tires and the road!!! )

Gummi demonstrates the finer points of Ural maintenance. dr_bar was out for his morning spin (a mere 4,600 kms from Gananoque!!!), heard Gummi had Doukhbor out, and dropped by to check it out...

Safety first! Gummi and Mrs. Stark adjust their lids..

All set...

And away we go!!!!

These pics are from summer 2007, there were shot with a film camera and I just got around to digitizing them. Taken at Gummi's former residence in Gananoque, ON.

Hiya Gummi

Took a look at 'Quest for Beer'. Enjoyed the blog but nearly tore my speakers out of their sockets and threw them out of the window to protect my sanity - know what I mean! ( :? )

If you ever decide to take over the world, I think you already have the perfect weapon to do it with...

Uhhh... not entirely sure. Do you meant the background song? Is it too loud or something?
