Angie and I decided to try out our new snowshoes that we got for Xmas today. We drove my truck out to McCormick's Sideroad, one of my fave Ural routes, which is not maintained in the winter. I figured it would be a good place to go for a romp in the snow, as the road doubles as a snowmobile trail through the winter and doesn't get used much. Mom and Dad are visiting for the holidays, so we took their dog - Hector's brother Jess - along for the day...
Angie, ever the fashion conscious doll, was looking radiant in her outfit...
While I had opted for my Russian Spetsnatz Commando look...
There had been some snowmobile activity on the road but it was a few days since the last sled had gone down it, so there were a few inches of fresh snow on top of a hard track. Perfect for snowshoeing. We ambled along the trail (well, Angie and I ambled while the dogs tear-assed around the countryside) and enjoyed the -4C temp and beautiful snow covered scenery. We found a small burbling brook and took a short break to let the dogs take a drink and splash around for a bit before moving on...
By the halfway point Hector was starting to get tired, so we stopped for a rest...
Jess, however, was still full of energy and spent the whole break romping about in the deep snow off the trail...
After a photo op, we were on our way again...
We continued up the trail to the top of a long hill, where we decided to turn around and head back...
We stopped at the brook for another refreshing drink...
And then the dogs and I stepped up the pace so we could get the truck all warmed up for when Angie caught up...
We were only out for a little over an hour, but both dogs and humans were pretty worn out by the end. But it was such fun that we'll be doing it again, hopefully tomorrow!
