I wouldn't go 600 miles on a Fatboy or any Softail. You need a bike with a suspension for touring. If you want Harley, take the Road Glide or Street Glide.

300 miles? Screw the BMW.

I would go with the Road King. :kicking:

That's what I said. And who knows how much they charge per mile after that. In the end I might be better off buying a bike and riding it home to sell!

So, from another post - the Fat Boy may not do well for touring out to the Grand Canyon - its like 285 miles one way. Lots of storage on the Road King.

Yeah its almost 300 miles away. On the map, if you draw a straight line from Vegas to the Grand Canyon, it looks very very close. The thing is, since there are no direct route, it ends up being about twice the distance. I never did end up going there when I was in Vegas because of that as I was going the other way...to Death Valley, the Sierra Nevadas, Lake Tahoe, and Yosemite, and just did not have the time.

If I were getting an H-D touring bike, it'd be the Road King because it seems to have the least amount of bags, boxes, fairings, bars, lights and carp hanging off of it.

That's too funny! I'd probably go the other way around - wanting bags, boxes, fairings, well I can do without bars, lights and crap...

My major issue is that I'll have a laptop, 5 days of dress clothes and assorted other crap...

I dunno, probably not going to happen anyway.
