I spent the last couple of days upgrading an Epiphone Les Paul Jr for my grandson. New tuners, graphite nut, adjust tress rod, and dress the frets. Now it will stay in tune and can be played. I'm debating upgrading the pickup and switchgear. I'm thinking a Dirty Fingers with push/pull volume so the phase can be reversed.

Hey Doc, PM me that url, Thanks.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

A hard clutch pull could be from a mangled clutch basket, like on my 599:

Well I asked to guy to lube the clutch handle and cable since he's charging the battery for me or other potential customers. If the other GPz is not what I was expecting I may take another look at the first one with a hard clutch pull. I noticed that the handle kick up some rust when I pulled the handle, the clutch connection on the engine seemed fine and smooth so it might just be the handle. The bike only has 14,000 miles on it and was sitting for a few years. The engine started up smooth and idled nicely. The aftermarket pipe made it bark louder than I liked but still within DOT guidelines (it had a baffle) but I dunno... I leave my house around 5 am at times.

The only thing that concerned me were the old tires and the fact that he told me that I didn't need to use the clutch to shift and that he shifts without clutching it unless in 1st. And he did a small burnout in front of me...

Thanks for the suggestions, I need an answer on clutchless shifting though. He changed gears in front of me and it seemed fine but still uncertain.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

Clutchless shifting... yes you can do it. Most racers do it on their race bikes at the track. All you do is unload the gearbox (let off the gas), shift and back on the gas. It might save you 1/100 of a second, which is why racers do it. And on the downside, if you miss the shift you will overrev the engine and possibly turn you transmission into lots of tiny irregular shaped pieces of metal.
