Employer. The general consensus is that it belongs in the picket line porta potty.

Our union has recommended we reject it.
For some reason, I thought that communication between the employer and the employees was strictly though the union during a labour dispute. Presenting the offer to the employees and not the union was considered bargaining in bad faith, because the negotiating athority is in the hands of the union not the individual worker... I could be wrong though.

Anyone with knowledge of BC Labour Law please speak up if I'm wrong...

I don't know. Maybe the union authorized it???
Anyway, we all got a 4 page "correction" couriered yesterday....

Jeeez....ya think they would have proof read it before sending it out the first time?

They have amended one part to say that will not contract out the driver's jobs.....however, they still want the option of contracting out office jobs.

They also want to be able to "force" overtime.

We have a vote tomorrow.....I think it will be an overwhelming "NO" to accept.

Forcing overtime: This condition exists when management refuses to complete a staffing package. They know how many people it takes to do a job. Hire them.

Precisely.

The management wants to be able to insert more work onto a driver's manifest even if it means they will be in late.
They have disregarded that the driver's have committments after their shift is over....

Don't know BC Labour Law...Under the US Labor Relations Act, the company cannot actively negotiate with represented employees, but can distribute information concerning any offer made to the Union. The key to that being that the offer being shown to the employees has to have been offered.

It is not uncommon for US companies to play games like distributing leaflets just minutes after officially notifying the unionof an offer. This seems benign enough other than the leaflets will invariably only focus on what the represented employees want, and not the parts of the deal that hurt them.

It is a very effective way of legally undermining the bargaining process....but there is also a thin line as to how far companies can get away with it before the labor board steps in.

Keep the faith Blues...if they are reaching out this early in the strike you guys stand a good chance of prevailing in the vast majority of your interests.

I was at the union hall today. I asked about this....the union said it was ok...because of the fact that the knowledge was already out there. The union's opinion is that they are glad they aren't incurring the cost.

I drove down to the the picket line tonight to visit with some folks and to shed some light on the contract offer.
The contract offer has some very confusing language and some misleading language.

One of the guys fell on the pile of wood while trying to cover it with the tarp (it started to rain)...he landed on a nail and it went right through his finger.

One of the other guys cut the nail with some pliers and then I drove the injured guy(with the nail still sticking through his finger) to the emergency ward. The emergency folks took him right away bypassing the people already there.

Yesterday we drove 180 miles into upstate Pennsylvania to talk to a sidecar fabricator / installer, then drove home. Interesting and informative trip!
