I got home from work early and spent an hour trying to get the last (and thoroughly rusted) bolt out of my lowers so they could be picked up and taken away. They are cracked and I'd arranged for them to be taken to a plastic surgeon for a little remedial TLC. Amazing how there is always one bolt that won't play ball, and how it is almost invariably in the most inaccessible part of the bike.

Moral: I learned, once again, that I am not the most patient or persistent of creatures. Managed finally to saw through it though.

yup I hate that. however I heated up the shackles on my truck one time and only one side the bolts came loose. even after heat I spent another 30 minutes getting the bottom bolt of one of the shackles apart because I didnt feel like paying $10 for a new bolt since I had just spent $50 on 2 new shackles. I started the shackle on fire and it still didnt "break free" very easily. I felt like but working at it I got it without using a sawzall . Now the starter was a different matter. Either way I feel yer pain .

changed the oil in the Hammer this morning, hard to believe it's been 2500 miles already. then went to work and was glad i drove the truck this afternoon when i went out for lunch and was met with rain, wind, and puddles. still hadn't dried out completely by the time i left work at 11pm even though the sky was clear.

oh well, plenty other days for riding here in the land of sun and sand.

took the van in. Found out the manifold GM replaced 6 years ago and started leaking 3 years ago (right after warranty expired) is whats causing my overheating issue. This is horrible that a manifold gasket only lasts 3 years. Looks like my next vehicle is gonna be a Ford. I have NEVER had an issue with any ford I have owned and this is my first GM vehicle I ever owned.

I too have also had great runs with Fords. But I made the mistake about 5 years ago of picking up a Nissan truck on a whim and I have been paying for it ever since (not the truck - the mistake). Right now it is in the shop for a transmission. Last month it was for a transmission leak. The month before that it was for a knock sensor that required removal of the Supercharger to change. A garbage vehicle if there ever was one. I'll be buying another F150 as soon as possible

I'm actually shopping around for a small to midsize truck right now. I'm basically set on either a Dakota or a Tacoma/Tundra/T100.
I'll never own a Ranger because the last time that I drove one the brakes went out while I was hauling a trailer with 2 ATVs on it coming into a small town in the mountains of Colorado.

I'd be looking at Toyota a lot harder than a Dakota if I was you Wrider. Unless that Dakota was significantly cheaper. And I'm a Dodge man. The Dodge is reliable enough, it just feels/drives cheap compared to the Toy.

I would rather look at an f150 or a dakota than any tow me now out there. Sorry but anything that uses servo motors for the steering, sensors for the gears (P N D), sensors for the gas and brake pedals that only let you use 50% of the brakes when its carreening down the road with no stop in sight, a vehicle that uses a push button that you must hold for 3 seconds to turn the car off instead of just turning off the key isnt a vehicle I will EVER own. I rather like to be able to throw the vehicle in Neutral and KNOW that its in neutral instead of worrying "is the computer gonna tell the transmission to go into neutral?" Then when you shut the power off you can no longer steer because your no longer sending inputs to the computer from the servo motor. Sorry but ill stick with F150 like someone else above.
