Around here, dropping the bike during the course is not an automatic expulsion - noobs drop bikes a lot. However, dropping the bike during the riding test at the end of the course is an automatic fail.

Hopefully this hook lets you pull your hand away when you need to. E.g. if the bike goes down, no need for you to go with it..
