good luck dude! The crappy times with the living situation will just make the good times seem that much better. Sounds like you'll stay focused on the task at hand anyway, so after a bit the roomates probably wont even phase you.

How long is the course?

It's going to be 28 weeks, but I will find a way to persevere. LoL. This is getting to be more and more fun each day.

I don't really ride with a pillion all that often. In fact I rather dislike it, one more thing to worry about. Especially considering the way I ride. All I'd need is someone on the back to lean the wrong way at the wrong time for a very close encounter with the asphault.

As for riding with a pillion AND saddlebags... well they have two straps that go across the back seat, heavy nylon with thick velcro. I don't imagine it'd be much fun to sit on something like that. In fact it looks downright uncomfortable from where I'm standing. You might consider picking up some hard cases if you're looking to do some touring.

I know that www.twistedthrottle.com sells some givi mounting brackets, but they require that you have a top case mount as well. Sort of changes the way the whole bike looks though. Not my cup of tea or so to speak.



Internet access has been spotty to say the least. Public computers are up and down like crazy, so I don't know if or when I'll be able to connect.

Last night, for the first time ever I found a wifi connection in my dorm room it lasted for about 11 hours. But when the sun came up it went down. I'm not sure if someone stole a router (what I was told) or if the sun is interfearing with the signels (I wouldn't be surprised). Or something equally stupid.

I've been riding Dunvegan Valley (near school) recently. Ride down one side over the bridge, get up to the top, whip a u-turn and do it again... and again... and again. Road's empty 90% of the time, and there's a passing lane in the ascending section on either side, so lots of room to have fun going up the hills.

It's twistier then the map makes it look, and rather pretty to boot.

So... I'm sitting in parts class right now learning how to use both a computer and a microfiche catalogue system. I just had an assignment that had me name the parts of the computer... keyboard, mouse, moniter. This is killing me.

However, the microfiche catalogues he have on hand are just mind boggling. There's one here for a 1954 Triumph Airhead. There's a HUGE filing cabinet full of catalogues and catalogues. I could probably spend hours in here just looking through the parts.

Our take home assignment tonight (hasn't been handed out yet) is going to be going through these old catalogues on microfiche and figuring out what the parts numbers are for various things. Estimated time to complete is 6-7 hours. And the hardest part is supposed to be the fact that names do not always match. Does anyone know what a Crown Pinion is??? I expect to spend a lotof time asking questions like that tonight.

We're going to cheat a little bit, I'm going with some friends from class tonight to try to work through it together.

It's a pinion gear designed to mesh with a crown wheel, as is used in a rear differential on a bike.

$2 bucks says the catalog is on the Internet and you can cheat by just searching for em

I tried that, turns out there are quite a few of the catalogues on the net. Instructor's have gotten around that by making us look up items from bikes that are 20-30 years old.

Friday (Sept 22) Sev planned to make the 7-8 hour bike trek back for a weekend of Edmonton Crew festivities: Paintball !! and the annual Edmonton M-C Toy Run. No doubt he’s enjoying the Fairview m-c mechanics course but hey, we’re a heck of a lot of fun too. And to Sev, no doubt a return bike trip in less than warm temps for 14-16 hours to spend a total of only 38 hours here before heading back (yup, that’s what it was, 38 hours total time including hanging out, hot tubbing, beer and maybe some sleep) is something he’d get a kick out of.

Malice and I decided to meet him partway in Whitecourt. Since he was making the trip, we couldn’t let him do it all alone. Sev sent a note saying he was leaving around 1330 so we left Edmonton at 1600 with the intention of meeting him at 1800. We arrived in Whitecourt at 1830 to wait.

We’d been held up 30 min by rush hour traffic in the city and then by battling cold rain. Little did we realize that Sev had worked on breaking the speed of sound and had already been in Whitecourt for at least 45 min, waiting at a different place. Good thing he spotted our bikes going by and made his way over.


And gave Malice an interesting welcome… (was that really a left hook???):naughtynaughty:




We rode back in the dark (and it was Cold ) but fortunately the weather improved for Paintball the next day.
