I've done clutchless shifting all the time, I normally do this only for up-shifting and use clutch when down-shift and to stop. I can tell that with clutchless shifting, I can change gear smoother and faster. I don't see any sign of tran wear as of now and I will continue shifting without clutch as long as I ride.

When riding today I realized that I accidentally upshift without the clutch....guess I need to learn to pull that there clutch in a little faster

i ve used clucthless shifting for years, but only up the box, never down.foot under gear lever, light pressure and blip the throttle.job done.get into the habit and gear changes are hell of a lot smoother.xjrjohn

I've done some clutchless shifting but only by mistake going up thru gears. What I hate is when I shift myself into neutral by mistake. I've done that about 3 times now. Once actually had to pull over cuz I was afraid to shift into first while going 30mph. I had hit the shift lever by accident that time while moving my foot around on the peg.

what was that "air shifter" thing someone mentioned. would that make the bike like a tiptronic (clutchless manual in a car)?

Yea, I accidently have shifted into neutral as well. I was like wtf is going on. Than I figured it out, and all was good with the world

. I got scared something was wrong with the bike until I figured it out though. Glad it only took a couple of minutes.

I don't do this as a rule. But it has come in handy on a dirt bike when I broke the clutch lever off in a fall. I was able to ride several miles out by starting down hill in neutral pop it into gear and keep going. I wouldn't recomend it on the street, without a clutch you would have a hard time in traffic.

some advanced riding causes teach the clutchless shift.it makes for a simple, seamless shift.it does not damage the gear box.remember im talking, changing up not down.change down without the clutch and you will damage the gearbox.way i was taught......foot under gear change....light upward pressure.......blip throttle.jobs a good un.remember only a light pressure is needed.xjrjohn

If you can time the shift exactly to the micro-second when you have the tranny unloaded, you won't hurt anything. If you can't time things that well, use the bloody clutch and get on with your life until your experianced enough to both tell when that is and how to do it.

An air shifter is commonly used for drag racing. It does a clutchless shift, but it's done mechanically. Your foot is no longer involve. Instead, there's usually a button on the bars. Punch the button and instantly go up a gear.
A good air shifter will also have a circuit that cuts the ignition just before the shift. That's the mechanical equivalent of blipping the throttle on a clutchless shift.
