Yes it is. If the cager stopped & was apologetic I prolly wouldn't have been that upset. The fact he took off bothers me alot. I want to track him down. Don't have much to go on tho I don't even remember the color of his cage. As your sliding across the pavement those kind of details get lost.

It would have been great if the left-turning bike would have waited for you to get through the intersection. That would have been the ultimate courtesy, anticipating that cagers might follow him through and possibly wreak havoc on you.

If you make no contact with another vehicle, to the police or anyone else that might be interested, it sucks a$$, but it just appears that you failed to control your vehicle during an attempt to stop. We all know cagers do the dumbest sh*t imaginable. Come to expect it ALWAYS.

Glad to hear you aren't injured...+1 for gear... -.5 for not having riding pants or some leg armor. :(

Sorry to hear about your close call, but I'm glad you're ok.

In my state, the cager would have been cited for violating your right of way and failure to stop and render aid. Too bad you didn't get his license number.

It really sucks when you go down and no one bothers to stop and see if you're ok. I can't believe people are in that much of a hurry where they can't take a minute or two to at least help you get out of traffic. I know this isn't the case everywhere--I was in Las Vegas this past weekend and saw a biker get hit by a taxi turning right on a red light. At least 20 people stopped to help the guy and get his bike off the road.

Short of developing a holoprojector to make us look like 18-wheelers to other drivers, I don't think cagers are going to learn to start looking for motorcycles anytime soon, so the best approach to riding safely is to assume we're invisable.

Glad to hear you're doing alright. I'm a new rider too, and within 200 miles of my new bike some cage a-hole sideswiped me. I suggest buying a video game to get your moto fix while the bike is in the shop....they can take forever to fix! :frusty: Just learn from it and get back on. See you on the road again soon hopefully!

Yea I'm gonna play some grand theft auto san andreas. My bike is at the shop now,but I haven't heard back from them yet. Damage is fairly minimal prolly due to the fact I had a windsheid on. That windshield is scratched to all hell. About parts I have no idea how long it takes to get them. The right foot peg is gone & the rear brake lever is slightly bent. I don't see why I couldn't bend the rear brake lever back myself. Also, needs a new turn signal lens on the back right side. The front brake lever doesn't work don't know why. Maybe the lever is toast too. Luckily, I already have spare levers that they can use. I'll let you guys know how it works out in the end.

I see alot of bikes on the road today & I wish I was out there too. I have the day off from work & mite actually have to wait till monday to get the bike back.

Oh forgot to mention that I bought this bike used & it was already scratched up on the left side. I just evened it out I guess by going down on the right side. If I had a new bike I would be extremely P.O'ed.

Ironically, I was looking at some riding pants two days ago. Of course I failed to purchase them. Even if I had I wouldn't have received them till next week anyway. I'm also curious if knee pads that you can strap on over jeans would actually work. I would think they'd become dislodged & or displaced on impact therefore not providing any protection anyway. Anyone here use these types of knee pads ?

I know this might sound like some stupid advice for a motorcycle, but I think it is fine while in your cage. If you know there is no way to avoid an accident without destroying your car in the process, than do not avoid it and hit the other car. Most likely, the other person will run and not help you, so you are stuck by yourself. Hit the other car, and most likely he is stuck there. My friend tried to avoid an accident and ended up totally his car anyway, while the other driver just drove away.

That doesn't sound like stupid advice for a cage. On a bike I wouldn't take that approach. If I chose to hit the cage instead I would've hi-sided. I don't like the idea of that since you don't know where you'll land.

I got the repair info from the bike shop today. Total repairs will be $325. My insurance deductible is $250 so I don't think its worth a claim. I didn't get a breakdown of the costs for each part, but heres what has to be replaced.

Right foot peg. Back right turn signal assembly. (I guess they can't order just a lens) They're going to bent the back break pedal back into place.
New master cylinder. That is prolly the most expensive part. The corner of the cylinder was shaved off & the mechanic told me it can't be opened now. That's why it needs to be replaced.

Guess if it wasn't for that cylinder I wouldn't have paid so much.
I should get the bike back next Friday. In the meantime I'll have to get my bike fix with GTA san andreas.

Have you considered maybe getting parts through a scrap yard? I mean, some of the smaller things that you'd be able to do yourself, the turn signal and break peddle for instance?
