my bike needs more power how can i get it

I don't think you're using all your bike's potential..
That GS will take off pretty damn quickly; fast enough to both wheelie and leave you doing the superman.

But, if you must have more power...The only economical way to do that (without getting a new bike) is do an exhaust and jet kit, and get a smaller front sprocket. Everything else (turbo, bore job, etc) is way expensive for what you get out of it.



And "freedom of choice" is a lame excuse when other people's lives are at stake. If he wanted more power for riding around on deserted roads and whatnot, that's fine. But if he loses control of that bike (which even on a GS500 is very easy to do) he could injure or kill someone.
And that message HAS to be 'like a broken record'; 'cause if it isn't, many won't get it into their heads.

If he wants to get more power out of his bike, fine, I don't really care, I'll probably be doing the same thing eventually, but I don't see why I would need to take off like a bullet. So it sounded like a joke.

I have to agree with this one. If it's working properly, a stock GS500 should blow the doors off of most cars on the road, from a standing start. A quarter mile time in the mid 13s is not too shabby.

it can already beat all the cars, if you master how to start you would be corvettes off the line, they would pass you in a few secs, but off the line, almost every bike can beat most cars.

Yes, but in order to do that, you need to change the air filter, exhaust and jets. That's not cheap. Or you could just do one or two of the above and risk a poorly tuned bike which actually makes LESS power. But hey, you might THINK you're faster, and that's just fine by me.

Deathlucky, don't take this the wrong way but in every post thus far I think you are far to immature for more horsepower. The gs500 has more than enough power. There is a time and a place for everything, riding irrisponsibly such as blasting off from a red light will only "pee" people off and put you in a dangerous position to you're self and others.

I don't think you are ready. This must be a joke.

Blah blah blah, whether he was joking or not is irrelevant to the fact that you wanted to eventually point out that "you are wrong!". Again, perhaps I'm the only one here who sees this, but its really lame when you see someone on the verge of jumping on someone's case because they make a comment like "wanting to take off like a bullet". I personally believe that people should ride safely and wear their gear but trust me, people don't want to get a lecture or be chided over something as simple as "taking off like a bullet". Now I'm sure some people might appreciate your great skill in being the internet biker policeman, but to others its just annoying. And its not just you, its so many people on here which is why I'm writing this. If it were just you I'd simply ignore you, which is likely about to happen anyway.

To recap: Yes I think people should ride safely, but no, I don't think people should be poised and ready to come out firing over simple remarks like "taking off like a bullet".

I believe instilling safe riding habits can only be done through proper training in real life with well trained and motivated MSF instructors. Its just that by getting ready to jump on someone over the internet because they want to "take off like a bullet" one has to wonder if they're really being effective? Surely this person should have taken the MSF or passed a skills test through the DMV where they are either trained to internalize safe riding from day one or tested on their ability to be safe riders. If that person didn't learn then will it make a difference jumping on their case now, particularly over the internet? I think not. Although I personally believe the members on this forum have steered newbies almost daily in the right direction before they ever bought their first bike or got their endorsement by telling them about the MSF and recommending appropriate bikes for their skill level, this person clearly has his own bike and is likely not going to care about a lecture at this point. In other words, if we're going to be effective at getting beginner riders to ride safely they have to be guided before they ever get their first bike, or its likely too late.

If you do any of the mods discussed, you ruin the bike as a starter bike for the NEXT owner...

Consider this as well: If you do any of those mods, you'll never get back half of what you put in $$$ wise AND you will cut your pool of potential buyers down to about 5% of what that pool is if you leave the bike as is.

Learn to ride that bike to its full potential.

The GS500 is a "Starter" motorcycle, so just pull up your big boy pants and DEAL WITH IT.
