I believe if you work on sharpening your observation of the vehicles around you, and behind you, then you'll be a lot more able to anticipate their next boneheaded move and be able to avoid having close calls.
Keep the shiny side up and ride safe.
Riding in these NYC streets is tough. I stay vigilant...not nervous or panicky...but I fully expect people in cages to do dumb things...and when they do, I'm not surprised at all. Of course, no one can anticipate EVERYthing...that would be ominiscience
