+1. I hate to say it but most bicycle riders have this arrogant attitude that THEY own the road and everyone else is just borrowing it from them. Well, here's a news flash for ya, CARS ARE BIGGER AND FASTER THAN YOU! If your stupid enough to think your 12lb bike going 27mph should rule the road then prepare to get smacked! I see it way to much out here in So Cal. Bike riders feeling that they belong in the mix of free flow traffic on busy city streets and that a recipice for pain and anguish. If Iwas a bike rider, I'd avoid any road that didn't have a bike lane PERIOD END OF STORY! Sorry you got smacked and I really hope you're OK but the roads just aren't big enough to share anymore so be extra careful!

Just remember, not everyone is an arrogant "O Ring", and some people need to be on those roads because there is no other choice. But once again, even if they had a choice, they're still entitled to be there.

I can say i certainly see my fair share of arrogant, unsafe cage drivers, but that doesnt mean i lump all car drivers into that classification. Just like motorcyclists dont want to be lumped in with the squids, bicyclists dont want to be lumped in with the arrogant "Donut Holes".

You do know its legal to carry a weapon in VA as long as its in plain sight dont you?

I didn't say they we're all arrogant, but if I was riding a bike which has a protection factor of ZERO! I would tend to live by the rule of if it's bigger faster and heavier than me, and I get hit, I LOSE!! So the best thing a bike rider can do is minimize the exposure to this potential. Here in So Cal, the majority of the problem is with the "Freddies" the club riders who wear the the gay looking lycra suit advertizing tampons and energy drinks who feel that they have every right to ride in a pack of 50+ and completely block traffic on twisty 2 lane roads because they can't go more than 5 mph because of the hill grade.

as far as the safenss factor, the same can be sai for motorcycles. They will never win in a crash. So should everyone stay home and not ever go on the road? Of course not. Just drive defensively and do whats within your means to stay safe.
Believe me, speaking as a bicyclist, if I had a choice, i'd never ride on the road with cars. But if I want to get to point A to point B on my bike, there simply is no other choice on most cases. That is why we all have to respect each other and be safe, even if that means taking an extra 30 seconds to get to the grocery store.

I agree completely with you. But don't "dog" about the other guy when you put yourself in harms way is all I'm saying. If you feel you need to ride your bike 3 abreast so you can talk to your buddy but you end up taking 1/2 of the traffic lane outside the bike lane, then don't "dog" if you get smacked! That's a self inflicted wound in my book. Different story if the cage went into the bike lane then he's got every right to "dog". This problem is really bad out here now days.

Per Michigan law...if the lane width permits, you may ride two abreast...but NO MORE than two abreast. You are not to impede normal and reasonable movement of travel (for other vehicles).

There are MANY roads where we live where you can ride 2 or more abreast, simply because they have no traffic on them.

But...anyone riding two abreast on the main roads around here is stupid. While they aren't breaking any laws, they certainly may be lacking in common sense! And yes, you are right...there are many arrogant cyclists who don't understand the "laws of gross tonage" as we refer to it in the Coast Guard!

One thing that motorcyclists SHOULD understand is being visible. That is even more of a problem while riding a bike (no matter what tampon they are advertising on their jersey!). You either ride WAY off to the side (if you have a shoulder to ride on) where all the crap, rocks, dirt, etc. is, or you make yourself a bit more visible by riding closer to the white line. No shoulder (like most of our roads here) means I HAVE to ride in the road. So yes, being seen is a big issue. ANYONE on two wheels should understand this.

what makes you think bicyclists dont have cars or pay for the road as well? I commute on a bike sometimes, and i still pay taxes, registration, all that stuff, on 3 cars as well. I also pay local, state, and federal taxes that pay for the roads we all drive on.
