I had a close call with that the other day while rock scrambling, slid down a steep section & my wedding ring hooked up for a second then let go. 
Don't fancy hangin' on the side of a rockwall by just my finger & ring!
Anyway....It hurt, but no damage.
Not doing that again!!
RINGS OFF from now on! So to speak.
