I also didn't take into consideration that today's Buell is a far different bike than the one I rode 9 years ago. Back then, they were made-over Harleys. I'm sure the newer ones are much improved. I just think it would be very tough to find another bike that can match the level of v-twin performance, comfort, and reliability offered by the Hawk for $4K.

Suzuki made the TL1000S, their counterpart to the Hawk. I believe it's fuel injected, mileage is supposed to be significantly better. I like the looks of the Hawk better, but the Suz is another one to think about if you haven't already.

My best riding buddy had a TL and it rocked. The riding position was pretty heavy on the wrists but it was more about being rowdy than touring. It was rated to be quicker than the Hawk, but in reality there was nothing between them....and we found out often! The limp-wristed British motorcycle press sensationalized a story regarding death-wobbles and problems with the rear rotory dampner but it was complete crap. If you can find one that hasn't been molested and you can take the riding position they would be worth a look.

I've heard the TL's riding position is very similar that of the SV's, which is way too radical for me. I've also heard bad things about both the TL and the SV's throttle response due to the FI. "Quirky" is the word people have used to describe it. I think the less aggressive riding position of the Hawk will suite me better. Now if I could only find one to test ride........

Going on a tip from someone in the superhawk forum, I was able to get a good look and a seat on a hawk yesterday. It turns out there's a mechanic at a local Honda shop who has one and he just happened to ride it to work yesterday. I offered to pay him for a test ride, but he wouldn't go for it. I totally respect that though. I did notice its riding position is quite a bit less radical than that of the SV1000. He also had the handlebar risers on which probably helped with that. This bike had a set of the Vance & Hines slip-ons, which sounded fantastic! He said if anything happened to this bike he would buy another one. I would say that's a pretty good endorsement, coming from a Honda mechanic and all. This encounter has only hightened my desire for a test ride, so the quest continues.......
