You know, I hear Bandit 1200's are excellent snow bikes.

No they are not they neeed to be tucked up in a garage for the winter.Thats why Jeeps were invented.

Quite a bit farther than three miles, actually. We were at the summit at that point, so we figured conditions couldn't get any worse. We were wrong, of course.

It got colder, and started snowing a bit, intermittent with freezing rain. The west side of the mountain is heavily shaded. But we all still had an excellent ride. I now know that Jeans with thermal underwear is not sufficient for winter mountain riding.
Honestly, I feel that people who say bikes are not good for poor weather are misinformed. The gear that is available today makes it possible to ride in almost all conditions. Just use extreme caution, ride slowly and you can ride year-round.
Of course, there are places (Most of northern US and all of Canada) where the roads are frequently completely covered with ice. Not even I would attempt to ride then.
