I have the system. The cartridge is just a water softener cartridge, removes the minerals from the water. That's why you don't get white spots. How would that remove the clear coat or damage it any more than rain water? I have hard well woater, and the white powder left when water dries leave water rings and is abrasive. That has to be worse than the softener cartridge on the Mr. Clean system.

other than the fact this thread is a year old I think your right. It most likely is that people with cars that have a recall because of being improperly painted just happen to have had the mr clean system in use.
