I cant imagine not pumping your own gas. Thankfully they don't try to pop your hood and check your oil anymore. 95% of these people working at the stations I wouldn't trust to fill my washer fluid.

They did some sort of test and aired it on California in reference to the different gas companies. I know that Chevron was at the top and AMPM was at the bottom for having the poorest gas.

I like Chevron then Shell, then Mobil. I don't notice a different though.

oh...and I like the 93 octane that some states have. Unfortunately Cali doesn't have it.

All gas is the same. Only odd thing about gas is in the northeast they add MTBE in the gasoline during the summer months. Usually the first tank of that stuff results in very poor gas mileage for me. After that first tank is burned its back to normal.

Oregon's reasoning behind not letting you pump your own gas is one of employment. When the logging there was executed the unemployment rate shot way the "fudge" up. In order to artificially create some jobs the state passed a law that you couldn't pump your own gas, thereby creating a couple of new jobs at every gas station in the state.

As for the oxygenated fuels... they can effect some engines more than others. They use that crap here in Dallas/Fort Worth during the summer as well. My dad's old van would lose 2-3 MPG right around mid-June every year.
