First ride!!! and no experience! =\
Lol I guess I was being a lil overconfident har har har. Well I was using imaginary lines at first for an hour or 2 but then I guess I wasn't taking it quite as serious =\. Once I was using actual objects to swerve around, I felt felt like it was a lot more productive but I definately will have to invest in some cones now Lol and as for the MSF, I am looking forward to it but it's due out in late august and the scheduling isn't quite as accomodating as I'd hope to be so I don't know if I'll be able to attend their classes at the earliest date available. However, I really am psyched to do the classes but in the meantime, all I can do is practice until they're available =D.
at least for the MSF here, you take the swerve at around 15mph, swerve around the object, THEN brake. Be very careful doing this however, if you start braking too early, you'll lowside(I almost did this)

No need to spend that much! When my wife and I were learning, we got some small bright orange cones, I think they're used for street hockey, for maybe $10 from Walmart. You can run over them with no damage to the bike or the cone. They did the trick: the first time I did the figure 8 at the MSF BRC, the instructor said, "you've done this before, haven't you?" Yeah, I had, a couple of hundred times, with my little orange cones.Reflex439 wrote:Spend $100 and go buy some cones, and set them up and use that.

you can pick up cones for free at any construction site...just go late at night....
Oh, and you say your were practicing your figure 8's between parked cars..... thats probably not such a great idea, because as you have allready seen, things happen fast, and if it was MY car you smucked if you fell over.....Id be less then impressed....

Hey dont sweat the riding in traffic for the first ride. I did the same thing and I am fine. I have been riding for a month now and only had one mishap. But that was inexperience to blame. It was also not traffic related. But keep it up. Just take you time. And work on the quick stops and swerving.
