I had a friend go to New York who didn't feel comfortable without locking his bike to an immobile object. Disk locks prevent bikes from rolling but its still easy for a couple guys to toss the bike into the back of a pickup. The best policy though, is simply not to park near thieves. Theives can also turn into vandals when they don't get what they want so then what's the point? Easier said than done I suppose.

Fork lock, disk lock, built-in security system disables engine. (I want to add a siren to that security system.)

I'll post some pics later, but at home I use a Kryptonite Stronghold with a Master Street Cuff. The Stronghold is mounted to a concrete surface and provides a large D-ring to the ground. The Street Cuff looks like handcuffs with a bit of rubber around the inside (to protect your finish) and they also have longer connection between the two cuffs. Plus I will cover my bike with a proper fitting cover. All of this makes it harder to just grab my bike and go. We all know that if someone really wants your bike, they will get it. No one's working that hard to get my bike I'm pretty sure.

Out in the world I never leave my bike that far away from me. I don't think I'd take my bike to the movies or the mall. Also I rarely go for a hike in the woods after a ride on my bike. In all those cases the gear provide a challenge to doing ordinary stuff. Those who don't wear gear, it might be more likely to just go somewhere and do your usual things. I always have a full helmet (that I wouldn't be able to leave at the bike), a leather jacket, riding boots (combat) and most of the time my riding pants. Too much to wear for a walk in the woods or walk around the mall. Too bulky for sitting in a movie. This helps keep my bike safer I suppose. It is rarely out unless I entend on riding it.]

Like I said, I'll get a picture posted later of my security set up for locking at my house. It think it is pretty cool.

yeah, the beat up junker seems to be the best bet.

Well we have a big chain and padlock to our gate outside shed, then the shed is padlocked, and disc lock on bike and a pickaxe handle
