Yeah, you are probably getting screwed. I'm 22, and ride a VFR750 and only pay a little over 300 per year. Shop around for insurance! Don't take the first quote.

I disagree, I got my bike for $1000 and it runs and looks great. Insurance is cheap for a 16 year old too at only $300 a year. I could not get a car anywhere near that cheap.

Well for one hes using USD, tho the difference isnt that big.

But how could you possibly be paying that much, im 19 with a clean record paying $115 a year and full coverage would have been like $280.

Ohhh.. he is in Canada. I've heard it is a lot more expensive up there for insurance. It still might be worth looking for another quote though.

i would say get the car first. thats what i did. i have been driving around in my car for about a year. it gives you good experience of what kind of drivers are out there. nothing close to a bike though.
then get the class M lincese.afterall its only 30$...

Car for sure just be of how practical it is. It's much safer, you can drive it at all times of the year regardless of conditions, storage space, cheaper insurance. Plus you're a new driver, you'd definitely want to learn the ways of the road first. With a motorcycle it is far less forgiving than a car is when it comes to making and correcting mistakes. Mistakes in a motorcycle often times end up with your bike sliding on the ground along with you. Car mistakes usuallys up with a smelly clutch and great panic.

Definitely get some road sense before riding a bike.

No need to wait until you are 30. Get yourself experienced with road skills in a car before you get on a bike.

Once you get into university, having a bike to ride might be somethnig that would help you get through.
You could go for a short ride to refresh your brain and then back into your studies.
It will be a lot easier to find parking spaces for a bike at a crowded university parking lot, too.

I'd say get a driver's licence and _then_ get a scooter. Best of both worlds.

um why does it matter which one you get? You can get a motorcycle liscence and not ride a motorcyle... or vice versa... BUT definately because you are my age, drive a car for awhile and get used to traffic and drivers and their intentions before riding a moto into traffic.

yeah!! except this is after you get really advanced into riding. Im still a little apprehensive about riding into the campus in during a busy day. So many people, so much clutch control and stuff.

but im sure your pro at that
