I ended up using the spoon squishing method that Blues and others suggested and it helped make my Shoei a bit more comfortable. Thanks for asking.

Hiya Shorts

I've been so tied up recently that I've only just got round to reading your blog for the first time today. I'd intended to flick quickly through it just to get a flavour but ended up reading it all - and watching the vids as well.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

I'm really impressed with the fact you are handling the one-sided controls at all in such a short space of time. They look like quite a handful to me (literally!). I would imagine it is taking quite an act of concentration to get your brain wired up to manage everything smoothly and in a co-ordinated fashion.

Keep at it! (Why do I say that? You clearly will.)

Very best wishes

First time I've read your blog too. I have to say that you are the most inspiring motorcyclist I've read about. You almost brought a tear to my eye at the beginning. (My dad's been a rehabilitation counselor my entire life, so I really feel for people with permanent injuries from accidents)
I'm curious, how old were you at the time of the accident?
Shorts wrote:I would like to offer everyone a challenge. The next time you go out for parking lot practice and slow speed maneuvers, get yourself in 2nd gear, then try each exercise using your right hand only to steer the bike. Keep your left hand glued to your leg, don't even bring it up to balance. I'm interested in your observations and take on how it feels.
When I took the ERC last year, one of the exercises we did was exactly what you described. They asked us to put our left hand on our leg and weave through the cones. I think that was the most difficult exercise in the whole course.
I'm really curious about how it feels to do an emergency stop. In such situations, I use both arms to keep myself from taking a trip over the handlebars. I'm trying to think of how you can do that without adding steering inputs to the right-side handlebar. I supposed if you have some strong thighs, you can just tightly squeeze the motorcycle between your legs.

Hmm, I'm off to go one-handed riding to experiment...

So since you guys drive/ride on the wrong side of the road, how do you acknowledge another rider going the opposite way? Or do they not do that there?
