I don't care if some guy thinks I'm a complete tool wearing a full-face helmet, padded coat, etc.
I don't care about that guy either.Whether he catches bugs in his mouth as he's zipping down the road, or if he gets the hugest most ugliest road rash when he falls... all I care about is what gear I have on and whether I will stay safe on my next ride.
Although I do shudder when I see a guy in shorts, t-shirt and sandals with just a bucket helmet...

It seems the level of being opinionated on this board causes several to ignore the fact that this was addressed to those of us who do not wear lids.
Oh well so much for our time to shine.
I personally don't care what other people wear...same to me as what you ride....ride your ride ya know.
I do however notice that the helmetless at gatherings get all freaked out by sandals/shorts (wont do that because my pipes get hot and i hate burns) as if they have to feel like they are safer than someone else.
BTW, regardless of gear my insurance company gives you 11 months to live if you drive to work daily.....glad it rains and gets cold so I can dodge that statistic too.

Dyin'? Boy, he can have this little life any time he wants to. Do ya hear that? Are ya hearin' it? Come on. You're welcome to it, ol' timer. Let me know you're up there. Come on. Love me, hate me, kill me, anything. Just let me know it.

Once upon a time I was a crusader for the use of helmets. Now... I don't really care. If you have something worth protecting, you're going to protect it. If asked I'll say the same thing. Personally I wouldn't go out without a fullface, but that's because I've been hit in the hands and chest with bugs and rocks and other stuff that REALLY hurts. I cannot imagine what that would be like on regular skin.
That and I'd like to leave the plastic surgeons something to work with, in the event of a crash.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I feel sorry
I feel sorry for thouse helmet less/ No gear riders.... Why do they want to cut it short....
why not have fun for a long time... instead to of dying or getting seriously hurt so you cant ride again...
Sooner or later the luck is gonna run out... when that happnes.. (usually at low speeds) ur done for..... the accidents that I have seen..... Rider can easly walk away from it.....if they had proper gear.....
EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED>>>

We don't.silentx wrote:Why do they want to cut it short....
And the same thing could be asked by a non-rider about riding.
Next question...

You think your kids are worth protecting, so you protect them. I feel the same way about my head.ZooTech wrote:Couldn't resist could ya?Sevulturus wrote:If you have something worth protecting, you're going to protect it.
All right, so I have no brain, am expendable, and no one would miss me if I died. Happy now?

Its your life.. You have the right to End
People die of different causes.....
Cancer.. Terrorist attacks... Getting shot... Suicide..... just simly buy getting old... and plane crashes..car crashes... and motorcycle accidents.. etc....
My point is.. Riding WITH OUT A HELMET/GEAR should not be one of them....
If you hit head on with a truck on a highway.. both traveling at 80 mph.. then .. ya.. I dont think a helmet Can save you.*(though theres still a chance.)
But in most of the motorcycle accidents.. thats not the case... simply the rider get thrown away and hit some object.. and get hurt..
I willing to get punched in the face with a Full face helmet on.. than with out one... and thats a FACT
"# Head injury is the leading cause of death in motorcycle crashes. (U.S. Department of Transportation/National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, State Legislative Fact Sheet)
# The Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System (CODES) study found that motorcycle helmets are 70 percent effective in preventing brain injuries and that unhelmeted motorcyclists involved in crashes were more than three times more likely to suffer injuries than whose wearing helmets. (NHTSA, Traffic Safety Facts, 2004)"
http://www.michigan.gov/msp/0,1607,7-12 ... --,00.html
Well after all.. doesnt matter what other people say about wearing helmets... you make your own decision, whether its right or wrong... If you tell a rx addict to stop taking drugs.. how many of them would listen and stop.. ?
Its your life.. You have the right to End it....doesnt matter what the law say...

So stop riding. The chances of hurting your head, even with a helmet, are far greater in a motorcycle crash than a car crash.Sevulturus wrote:You think your kids are worth protecting, so you protect them. I feel the same way about my head.
Neither should falling in the shower, tripping on the sidewalk, or walking down the street in Iraq, but dodo happens. Your argument is rediculous on face value by virtue of the fact that you ride a motorcycle at all.silentx wrote:People die of different causes.....

I think I've finally come to a decision. I'm going to sell my bike and drive cages exclusively. Then I'm gonna come here daily and hassle all of you for riding just like your parents, coworkers, friends, and spouses did and/or do, and watch how all of you scramble to justify the activity with fuel mileage statistics and the benefits of taking the MSF course, blah blah blah. You don't like being asked to explain yourself to a naysayer cager, and I don't care to explain my actions to you. Get your noses out of the air and don't bother "feeling sorry for me".
And Sev, as "open-minded" and "tolerant" as you are about alternative lifestyles, it comes across as rather hypocritical that you lose so much sleep over a perfect stranger's choice of riding apparel.

Comparing me to a rx addict? Pray we don't meet in person.
