I hope this works--this is what can happen without gear, specifically, a helmet. http://www.gsxr.com/showthread.php?t=3677&page=1&pp=10

Reading other posts on that thread, I got the impression the guy had only owned the bike and been riding for a couple days, total. That little event can also be considered a reason why a gsxr600 is not a good starter bike.

Ouch! That's a good reminder. That said, and my bad habit of wearing tennis shoes aside, I'd never get on the bike without my full face helmet.

Indeed. I specifically shopped around for a bike with a black paint scheme so it would match my sneakers. :D

I talked with a guy who went down at 20mph. He was shocked his jeans split at the seams and shredded at such slow speed.

My msf instructor told me to check out his bike i.e. sit on it see what the riding position was like. It was parked. He says "oh and put your helmet on first" I do remember i wasn't wearing my gloves though. Now that is all the gear all the time.

i will never, ever, ride with out a helmet. first, its the law here in cal. second, when i was a kid, a friends dad was working on his bike, got done, took off on the bike to check his work, did a wheelie and fliped, WITH OUT a helmet. two days later he died in the hospitol where he had been since the paramedics took him. i repeat, I WILL NEVER RIDE WITH OUT A HELMET. boots, maybe. jacket and pants, probably not.

p.s. i love my new bike...

I live out in the country. there is no such thing as "riding around the corner to the store".

In the summer I'll wear a leather vest everywhere- but I always wear the rest of my gear.
