Yours were built back when Ford still produced something of value.CentralOzzy wrote:I have three Fords & I'm happy when I drive them....

Well, to get high performance out of an engine, the intake and exhaust will be tuned to use reflected pressure pulses to help move charge through the cylinder and improve breathing.iwannadie wrote:i posted this before(pre hack) and didnt ever get the answers, so how come you cant put straights on a crotch rocket? is it the way the inline engine works or something? i know you Can put them on but the engine runs horrible... why do cruises usually run just the same or better with straights.

So to randomly alter the exhaust of a highly tuned performance sport bike by going to straight pipes almost guarantees you'll screw up the balance, sometimes producing intake and exhaust pulses that work against each other and really degrade things.
A cruiser engine is typically not as performance oriented so the intake and exhaust are not as finely tuned. Going to straight pipes may still produce performance degradation, but you may get lucky and improve the tuning, particularly with a "Jessie James" type chopper where the exhaust is nothing more than a randomly tuned piece of sculpture. And even if performance was reduced, it probably wouldn't be as noticable since the bike aren't designed for that.
Actually they went that route in '04. Something about Ducati starting it and Honda following. They all do it now....BuzZz wrote:If straight pipes were the answer for sportbikes, Moto GP grids would be pretty dam loud (yeah, I know the niose regs and all, you get my piont).
